I can only give this hotel 3 stars as its marketed as the best hotel in Glasgow.....A city of a million souls should do better.

Arriving in my car the only place to stop is on double yellow lines in a bus stop lane. Its quite intimidating if, like me you are very law abiding about parking. The good news is the car is valet parked for a nominal sum. The space for stopping would only take 3 cars, so it could become very busy.

The rooms are very Scandinavian. So its all brownish and IKEA-ish. Still the room and bathroom very clean. Bed and pillows 5 star for comfort. Room very well insulated for noise. All 5 star.

I was disappointed that a light in room didnt work, one in the bathroom as well and 2 TV channels were incorrectly tuned. Reported to reception and not fixed before I left.....That is not acceptable for a so-called 5 star. Bathroom didnt have a shaving mirror either.

Breakfast food choice excellent. Seating way too cramped tho' and much too close to neighbours.

We were there for a gala night at which my wife was a star performer and there was no acknowledgement or recognition of that. Again in a 5 star I would expect that.

Sorry to hear we didn't meet your expectations. To address some of your points:
1. I agree with you about the drop-off. We have been in discussions with the council for some time about the shared use aspect and they have promised to resolve this. It is, however, clearly marked as the hotel set-down area but it has to have double yellows on it, otherwise anyone could park there for as long as they like.
2. As I have mentioned before about the design, it's subjective. We have 3 very different styles of rooms with pictures on our web-site and at check-in to help choose. Nothing in the hotel is from IKEA!
3. Sorry about the room faults - completely inexcusable and I would always encourage guests to call me if something isn't right. We promise to tackle the shaving/make-up mirrors soon.
4. I'm afraid we rely on our event clients telling us about someone's star rating. If it's not flagged up by them, we have to take a call between recognition and discretion which many prefer - I'm afraid we can't always get it right.
5. We don't market ourselves as the best hotel in Glasgow. We tell you about our awards but it would be terribly presumptious and the antithesis of our "improving, can always do better" unofficial mantra to go any further than that. I was once told by a guest that our marketing message didn't do the hotel justice - I took that as a great compliment!

Stayed in the Radisson over the weekend of the 13th to the 15th October so I am posting whilst this is fresh in our minds, but to be honest, I could post next year and it would still stand out!

We were attending a wedding with members of our family where the reception was held in the hotel so the rate obtained was very competitive for Glasgow City Centre.

I think the overall tone was set when we arrived after a 4 - hour drive up the M6 to pull up outside the hotel and just hand over our car keys at reception whilst checking in. By the time the check in was complete - and it was quick! - the car was being valet parked and the porter had our bags on his trolley and was ready to go to our room.

Our room was a "City Room" on the 6th floor and initially, I thought "Oh great, we're opposite the lifts!" That made me think about calling reception to see if it was possible to change rooms (we've had a bad experience with this before) but we thought we would give it a chance as the room seemed to be well soundproofed. We found out very quickly that we needn't have worried this time as it was very quiet. Overall the room was very clean, fresh, comfortable, stylish and well appointed.

The rest of our family arrived about an hour after we did and we decided to eat in the hotel. After a bit of a debate - Collage versus TaPaell'Ya, the Spanish menu won out and we had a very nice meal there - the Gambas al ajillo and Paella valenciana were delicious! The wine list is pretty comprehensive and is uniformly good. However, all I would say is that if you're a first - time visitor to Glasgow (we're not), don't restrict yourself to eating in your hotel as there are many fabulous places to eat in and around the city centre and west end. This goes for any hotel in the city, not just the Radisson so don't read this as a criticism of TaPaell'Ya!

After a few drinks post - dinner, we retired to a very comfortable bed and an uninterrupted nights sleep. A word of advice if you're ordering breakfast to the room - you had better be hungry as there is a lot to tackle! Having said that, this isn't a bad trait...

We had all of saturday free as our engagement wasn't until 8pm, so we did what was required shopping-wise and returned to the hotel early on in the afternoon. The hotel is very close to Princes Square and Buchanan Street / Buchanan Galleries so it's entirely possible to blow the budget on shopping - so beware! We had a few drinks on our return in the Collage Corner Bar, which is fantastic for watching the world go by as it's on a busy corner of the city centre and had a bite to eat there a little later on. To be honest, we were a little disappointed with the food in the Corner Bar as it took a while to come and could have been hotter but the staff were pretty good about it and removed a few items from the final bill without any fuss.

The wedding reception was fantastic, great band and good fun was had trying to remember the running order of a "Strip the Willow" and various other dances!

Sunday, and time to leave. The rest of the family had an early start as they had a flight to catch, so we saw them off and sneakily had an extra hour in bed! Check out was by 12pm, but we were running a little later than 12. A quick call to the reception and this wasn't a problem. On checking out, I was told that the valet parking would take about half an hour, and I noted that they were busy, so we had a coffee whilst we waited. In the end though, it was a little over 15 minutes, so not a bad delivery on their committment!

All in all, the Radisson isn't one of these places where it's "all style and no substance" - they have managed to do both, and they are doing it very well indeed. Visually and aesthetically it's a stylish place but the staff make it more so with prompt, friendly and very efficient service. We would stay again in the Radisson and would recommend it to anyone looking for accomodation in Glasgow.

Many thanks for your very comprehensive review and it's great to hear everything went so well.

I would always recommend trying other restaurants in the city and we're always happy to point you in the right direction.

We are just back from a lovely weekend break at the Radisson, having chosen it over our usual Hilton having read the reviews here on tripadvisor.

The hotel lived up to the reviews. A very welcome and thoughtful touch was the bottle of bubbly delivered to our room on check in, with a handwritten card welcoming us to the hotel, (it was my husbands birthday the next day, and our wedding anniversary).

The hotel is spotlessly clean, especially the bathroom, which is high on my priorities, and surprisingly few hotels manage to attain these levels of cleanliness.

The location is central, walking distance to the shops and plenty of taxis right outside.

The only tiny gripe I would mention is that on both mornings we found ourselves squeezed into a table for two which actually was joined to another table for two....bit too cozy for a romantic weekend away... when I looked around the restaurant it seemed we had the only table configured this way, so we must have been very unlucky to get it both mornings.

However, all in all we had a wonderful weekend away and would definitely stay in the Radisson again...I have already recommended it to my friends.

Thanks for your very kind comments ("well run" - I like that!).

Sorry about the squeeze on the table, though(oh, for a bigger restaurant). We do have plans in the long term to make it all more flexible but, in the meantime, I really would encourage our guests to shout if they don't like something, even if it's just a table selection.

Great to hear you liked everything else.

I have to say that this hotel does merit its No.1 hotel in Glasgow on Tripadvisor status.

The highlights of the stay for me were:
(1) The staff. All exceptionally friendly (mind you, this is Glasgow) and helpful. I managed to forget something in the room when I checked out and it was found for me and let for me to collect with no problem - despite the fact that it was valuable and in many another hotel, it would have gone 'missing'.

(2) The fact that everyone is really dedicated to service. They remembered that I had requested a quiet room and gave me one on check-in and there were lots of other little touches like this.

(3) Breakfast. How lovely. Nicest breakfast I've had anywhere in a while. The tapas restaurant was also pretty nice.

The only reason I don't give this hotel five stars is that I wasn't that impressed with the room - it gave me the impression of a Travelodge - basic toiletries - only shower gel and lotion in the room (no shampoo, conditioner, cotton pads or anything like that) and I was not a big fan of the dark wood/orange decor, which made it look very gloomy. But this is only a minor gripe and one which is quite personal. I'm sure others will like the rooms.

All in all, a lovely place.

Thanks for the review.

Design is, as you say, subjective; that's why we have 3 completely different styles of room and I recommend looking at the pictures on our web-site to choose which one you prefer. Failing that, you can always ask us when you arrive.

The bathroom amenity comments are surely a little unfair - there are make-up pads, cotton buds, manicure kits and shower caps in a lovely little wooden box on a separate shelf. My apologies if there wasn't one of these in the room. We use Arran Aromatics bergamot and ginger all-in-one hair and body wash and mandarin and mint (sounds weird but it was the clear winner in our in-house smell test). Both these come in 100ml bottles so there's usually plenty left to take home. As well as these there is grapefruit and shea butter soap - all in all it's a package that will beat, I'm pretty sure, any hotel in our price range. As always, though, we'll happily take on any additional ideas sp please feel free to drop me a line.

Six of our family stayed here as a surprise for my dad's 70th birthday. We had a great time. The facilities were great and the staff were even better. Nothing was too much trouble. We had two 11 month old babies with us and the open foyer and glass lifts were great to watch.
I would definately recommend it!
