We booked this hotel as an affordable luxury on the first night of a walking holiday (spending the rest in B&B's). I have to say I was a little dissapointed.

To be fair, the hotel was OK. We got the room through Octopus Travel for about £80 B&B (I think the rack rate on a weekend is £120). For what seemed on the website to be a fairly upmarket hotel, this seemed a great deal. The room was clean, the bed was comfy, the multi-jet shower was great!

The main gripe was the temperature, although I did note other reviewers' complaints about the rooms being too hot, I have to admit I chose to ignore this thinking people were being fussy! However these comments turned out to be very accurate. I was awoken in the dead of night feeling extremely hot, and found the room was also airless and stuffy. I eventually opened the window, after resisting for an hour or two because I thought it would be noisy. I found actually it was not too bad and slept well for the rest of the night.

Other little disappointments included that the shower cubicle had mould growing on it and the paint was peeling off the ceiling. These are only small things but also things you would think the owners would easily be able to fix and make the rooms feel more cared for and less worn out. I was also disappointed that the Playstation in the room (another silly little reason for choosing that hotel over others!) was not free of charge (unless you bring your own games with you - perhaps they should make this clearer on the website?).

Finally I did think the breakfast was a bit cheap. I think the buffet style serve yourself thing is fine for a Holiday Inn but for a hotel of this supposed calibre I'd expect something more. It was not made clear to us on arrival that you could order items like porridge or boiled eggs or kippers, which is a pity as I'd rather have had that than the standard fry-up and congealed scrambled eggs that have been sitting there for half an hour. Had I paid for one of the suites, I would have been very dissapointed indeed, and wished I had gone to the Malmaison instead (still the best hotel breakfast I've ever had!).

We didn't use the spa as we forgot our swimming gear, and we also did not eat in the restaurant. The bar was very pleasant and not too busy.

All in all, though this hotel was OK, I don't think it was worth the money and I doubt I would stay here again.

  • Liked — Very convenient location for shops and nightlife
  • Disliked — Rooms too hot
  • Tips/Secrets: — Leave the window open, itis not too noisy if you have a room that is not on the street side

Excellent hotel and reasonable room rate of £78 B&B. Reception staff were excellent on arrival. Room very comfortable with excellent bed and pillows. Modern decor worked well although slight problem in bathroom with small amount of mildew growing in the grout which they had clearly tried but failed to remove - and that was the only negative. Excellent muli-jet shower. Busy and trendy bar at ground floor level overlooking the concert hall. I dined with a friend in the excellent Oshi restaurant and the cooking was first class. Breakfast was very good too - top quality fresh kippers. Without doubt I will stay at Langs again when next in Glasgow.

  • Liked — Great contemporary design and fantastic staff
  • Disliked — Bathroom tiling needs changing to avoid a mildew problem which they are having difficulty controlling

Langs hotel is centrally located and ideal for a long weekend shopping.

The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient.

The room (521) was ideal and nicely decorated (even if the floor was too slippery)

The hotel has no air conditioning which is ok if you dont mind a warm room.

OSHI restaurant is a must, fantastic evening meal although they cannot provide you with a steak knife.

Although the hotel is lovely i dont believe that it lives up to the rates that they charge.

Overall a very enjoyable stay

Langs Hotel: stayed 6th-8th October

Langs is trying to be a boutique hotel but doesn't quite make it.
The room was a disappointment. While clean, some of the fittings left a little to be desired. The bathroom was not cleaned very well, with scum marks around the bath area, shower and on the floor. Also there was paint in the bath, surely not too hard to remove?
The view was of a car park - not pretty. Also, the cleaning staff removed some items which were not placed in the bin. It is the small details which let Langs hotel down. However, one thing which must be mentioned is the staff, they were lovely, especially the porter who was very helpful, polite and courteous.

My wife and I had visited Langs in 2005 and enjoyed our stay. On this occasion we had other members of the family with us and I booked three rooms.
We received a warm welcome as we entered the hotel and the reception staff were pleasant and efficient. All of our bedrooms were of a good standard - clean, spacious and comfortable

At breakfast we were able to choose from a well-stocked buffet with the option of ordering eggs to meet personal requirements. The staff were friendly and quietly efficient.

The hotel seemed to cater mainly for the business community but, with its excellent position for shopping and site seeing, we can strongly recommend it to the tourist.
