It was the third time we have stayed at Langs and unfortunately it will be the last. The noisy rooms due to traffic noise was just too much and a poor nights sleep was had by all. This is a shame as the rest of the hotel is fine with a great location and a great breakfast. Air conditioning is a must for a hotel of this standard. Who knows what it would be like in Summer.
We ate in the restaurant for the first time and the food was average, with the Waitress being unable to tell us which wines could be bought by the glass. The wine was extremely overpriced.

Having spent a full 2 weeks in the Langs I can confirm that it is a very nice, very clean hotel. The staff were all incredibly polite, the breakfast in the morning was varied and tasty and the room and sheets were spotless.
However, even being on the 5th floor I found that the noise from the street outside could become a tad annoying if you're trying to sleep at 3:00 in the morning. My room faced the Theatre and the Cinema but the windows did not seem to close fully, this sadly let in the noise.
The only other quibble I have is that the shower in the room didn't drain very quickly, you had to be careful you were not in there for too long or you could end up flooding the bathroom. Still, I'd definately stay there again.

Stayed three nights at the end of August. The plusses: stunning modern architecture and interior design, a great bar (slow service). The drawbacks: desk staff, though friendly, seemed not to have much local knowledge (perhaps they were visiting students from one of the local universities), the food at the stylish "pan-asian" restaurant was sub-par (friendly young servers, though), and, for such a modern hotel, the lack of air conditioning (fortunately I had a room on the back so I could leave my window open without the noise problem others have mentioned).

Located right next to bus terminal and across from the Royal Theatre its location is superb. This, coupled with the sleek, clean lines of both room furnishings and bathroom fixtures makes for a wonderful 2-night stay. Staff, although sometimes harried by a crowd that comes in waves, tries hard to accomodate and is efficient and pleasant. Room 207, looking out on the comings and goings of a lot of foot traffic can be noisy when window needs to be open for ventilation. The buffet-style breakfast with good variety, is freshly replenished. Will stay here again. Having to park a car can make it expensive.

If you want to stay somewhere for a special occassion don't stay here.

We recently stayed here for our wedding night along with our wedding party ( I - the bride - also stayed at langs the night before our wedding): BIG mistake!!!!.

We had a number of problems associated with the hotel rooms themselves, food availability, the attiitude of some of the staff and bar service. I won't even begin to go into detail about not being told that one of the restaurants would be closed during our stay, a kitchen was being refitted (found this out when I walked in a day before our guests were due to arrive to find kitchen appliances and work benches sitting in the bar area) this was despite the fact that we had made a block booking over 6 months before.

Hotel rooms:

no air conditioning - as a result none of us had a good nights sleep during our stay there - asked for a fan for the room and they said they had none left . We could not open the windows to let some air in due to the noise of the various drunk people walking past, cars and seagulls.

Sofa in room - very smelly, stank of sweat and BO, definately needed a good clean

food availability & attitude of some staff:

If you want something to eat before your wedding ceremony you won't get it at langs - My bridesmaids asked if we could get some sandwiches (nothing fancy just a cold tuna/ cheese/ or ham sandwich) before we left the hotel to go to the church - they were told "NO", as a result my chief bridemaid, an hour before the wedding, had to go out to a local sandwich shop in town to get us sandwiches for our lunch

My dad (father of the bride) also found himself in a similar situation. He had ordered a bowl of chips to eat before the church, 25 minutes later, and with no time left to eat, they still hadn't arrived. he complained to the girl serving him and also explained that he was about to go to his daughters wedding and could not wait any longer. Her attitude was to tell him he had only been waiting 18 minutes, after that my dad, minus his lunch, was then charged for the glass of water he had while he was waiting for his non existent bowl of chips.

It also turned out that my 87 year old grandmother was also denied her lunch too ( she like me and my bridesmaids had also asked for a sandwich).

bar service:

one of our reasons for staying at Langs was because it had a large bar area were we and all our wedding party who were staying at Langs (approx 50/60 of us) could meet up, sit togther and have a drink . We were informed that Langs operated a 24 hour bar and hence informed hotel staff that on our return from our wedding reception (around midnight) we and our wedding party would be coming back for a drink together. we, were however not told that the bar would be a porters bar - with our drinks being limited to a small number of beverages at an accelerated cost.

I think you can tell we will never stay at Langs again. We're just very disappointed as this was a special time for us and we stupidly chose this hotel - on the surface it looked OK - but as they say looks can deceive !!!.

My advice:

stay at Groucho St Judes - small boutique hotel- for great rooms and good cocktails (be warned no AC in the rooms), the Art House Hotel: for uniqueness and good food, or City Inn - for those on a smaller budget for good rooms, good decor and good food.
