“Ok for one night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

Stayed in this hotel as we were attending a wedding in the area. It's in an old building, small, but very central, probably could do with a good refurb, room were fine, bathrooms definatley needed done up showers especially as they were very poor! Staff were friendly and thakfully let us check in early to get ready for the wedding, it did us for one night as we really weren't in the room for very long. As I put in the title ok for one night if I was staying any longer I would stay somewhere else!

This hotel is a great base to explore Glasgow, centrally located and clean and comfortable.
We had a spacious double room with an ample sized en-suite, tea and coffee facilities and a flat screen T.V with all the freeview channels. A buffet styled breakfast was included in the price with all that you could ask for from cereals to cooked items. The decor in the hotel is slightly dated however upgrading was taking place whilst we were there. We did not use the bar area of the hotel but it looked spacious and well stocked. The staff are friendly enough but not very enthusiastic. The immidiate area outside the hotel is a bit rundown but it's evident that regeneration is taking place. All in all this is the best value hotel that we've stayed in for a while and we would certainly stay here again.

The hotel is near the central station, very central. The room was very nice, very big, with two large beds and room for a cot (the normal capacity seems to be 4 people, so we were well accomodate). In room was available 4 botles of water, 4 different types of cookies and some types of tea and coffe. The breakfast was nice and the staff was friedly.
We travelled with a 3 years old kid, the hotel suits to families. I recommend it!

Room Tip: rooms very confortable, central hotel

People should not take any notice of the negative reviews for this hotel. Great value.
A triple room with very comfortable beds, large bathroom and an excellent shower. The self service cooked breakfast was one of the tastiest we have had and plenty of cereals, toast, tea and coffee.
The surrounding area is a bit run down but this isn't anything the hotel can control.
So if all the rooms are up to the standard of 312 nobody should have anything to moan about. Will definitely stay here again.

Stayed at the Alexander Thompson in April for two nights with my husband, the entrance gave a good first impression but it quickly went downhill from then... waiting for the lift you can smell a distinct `fusty` odour which seems in be present in much of the hotel. The lift floor wobbled when we got in which didnt inspire confidence... the decor in the hallway leading to our fifth floor room was very dated, carpets did not appear to have been fitted properly. Our room was a good size again decor very dated. On closer inspection the room was very dirty, with white dust marks on the door and cracked paint in the window sills. In the bathroom the toilet had come away from the wall and wobbled when you sat on it, the toilet seat was only attached on one side which was fine if you were not needing to sit down but a definate hazzard if you did. My husband being over 6ft had to squat to get his head under the shower as there was no height adjustment on this.
Staff lacked personaility and appeared bored, especially the blonde girl on the reception desk on sunday morning who didnt look up at all as we stood for 5 mins waiting to ask for the toilet in our room to be looked at, gave up in the end as our taxi had arrived and she was still pre occupied.
Overall I wouldnt return to this hotel, it appears to be well past its best and in desperate need of a refurbishment and a good clean.

Great location, helpful & friendly staff, modern clean room, comfortable beds, great breakfast, good bar prices, very comfortable lounge with wifi, all at a very good price - what's not to like? Would stay again.

We stayed here recently while having a short break. Unbelievable value for central Glasgow! Room was a bit small, but clean and comfortable, and buffet breakfast was very good. Some noise from Argyle St traffic, but we were so comfortable it did not disturb us at night.
