“What a deal!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

We booked through Booking.Com and paid £55 for a refurbished double room with breakfast in a central location of Glasgow. Fantastic value. Do ask for one of the new rooms when you get to the desk, as it is clear from the reviews on Trip Advisor that there is quite a difference between the old and new areas of the hotel. Staff were very accommodating about this request, too. Good TV, shower, comfortable bed, etc. Little noise as we were on one of the upper floors. Breakfast was a buffet and decent quality. Nice big lounge with a bar on the same floor as the restaurant.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room on one of the upper floors.

On the plus side it was clean and the bed was comfortable - and the heating was up to the job of keeping out the December cold.
Unfortunately my room smelled slightly of stale cigarette smoke.
The decor is sightly quirky and although they have used good quality fittings in the bathroom the plastic pipe looked to have been pushed together by someone in a hurry. As a result each time you turned on a tap there were a few seconds of air hiccoughs which could splash you with cold water.

Some people have raved about the buffet breakfast - if your idea of cordon bleu is potato slices in batter with thick white bread than you will be happy. There were ~7 types of hot fatty carbohydrate ( including the sausages) ,the fruit salad was tinned and the tomatoes in the heated buffet were cold ( uncooked!) . The fried eggs were all hard and the bacon had a strange odour. The coffee was quite good though. On the up side, if you want a free breakfast Glasgow nobody in the breakfast room checks whether you are staying there, or even greets you as you walk in.

Room Tip: Make sure that you ask for a room that has not been smoked in and if you have pre booked at a cheap...

just returned from a 3 night stay. This is a budget hotel which is in an ideal location for shopping, close to Argyll Street shops and within easy walking distance of the Buchanan Galleries. We had stayed at this hotel before and loved the big room with the big bathroom which we had on our first visit, however this time we were in a much smaller room but it suited us ok as we did not spend a lot of time in the room. The room was really warm which was ideal as it was so cold outside. The breakfast had something to suit all tastes, and there was always plenty of freshly cooked food available. We asked for an extra pillow and our TV didnt work when we arrived but by the time we came back in at night the extra pillow was there and the TV was working perfectly. Plenty of channels to chose from There was a hairdryer and iron and ironing board in the room. Bottles of water and tea making facilities and biscuits were provided and replaced if used. Would recommend this hotel for a short reasonably priced stay. We were on the 4th floor and were not bothered by any outside noise.

Room Tip: we were on the 4th floor at the front of the hotel and had no problem with outside noise

Staying only one night and for what was paid, I was not expecting luxury. You get what you pay for. Location is perfect, rooms are well heated. Buffet breakfast was the highlight of our stay. However, in this day and age sleeping on a matress without a matress protector I didn't relish! Next morning on preparing to leave; I removed some bangles from my wrist to enable me to get my coat on. Then walked out of room without them. When I telephoned the Hotel, I was told there were no bangles left!!! They were not of monetary but sentimental value which cannot be replaced!

Room Tip: Unless you want to walk down five flights of stairs, get a room on a lower floor.

OK, this hotel has seen better days. But it is very convenient for the central station, the staff were effective, and our room and the breakfast were both very large. Plus the rate when booked in advance was unbeatable. I would recommend this place over a bland chain.

Hotel is quite old and the surroundings look the same. Behind the hotel is a construction hole from jurassic era and the bus parking area- very noisy at daytime. I happened to have room which was relatively nice but the door was made from rice paper or similar because light from corridor glowed straight to my eyes the i was in bed and i could recognize my fellow victims( hotel guests) the way they walked on the creaking floor. Fortunately it is very close to railway station and airport shuttle stops. Overall i would choose some chain hotel in the future, because this kind of local is not for my nordic taste.

Don't be put off by the photo on Google Earth. It looks like the area is up for redevelopement and it's hard to tell if the hotel is open so we were a bit worried what it would be like. However we were pleasantly surprised. The reception staff were friendly and we were quickly given our key although it was busy with people checking in. There is only one lift which is really small. We were on the 3rd floor, so just used the stairs. The rooms are quite basic but comfortable and clean (apart from the shower head in room 302, but that was reported) We only arrived on Friday night and the towels were changed again on Saturday morning. There is tea and coffee available in the rooms as well as biscuits and bottled water. The hairdryer is actually on the wall next to a mirror (not always the case) Breakfast is served in the large dining room and should meet everyones needs. There's plenty of choice, either cooked or continental. Tables are kept clean and, if one isn't available right away, you can sit in the lounge and wait to be seated. Staff were very friendly and we would go back. The hotel is ideally situated for shopping as it's only a short walk along Argylle Street to the Enoch Centre or turn up Buchanan Street to Sauchiehall Street. It's also just a short distance to the SECC.
