You have to make an effort to find La Bodega Tapas Bar, hidden as it is in the far west reaches of Greater Glasgow in Scotstoun. The bar could be described as a wee bit homespun but there's no questioning its authenticity as a genuinely Spanish-owned tapas bar and a popular one at that. It really is all about the food here rather than the decor, and people to beat a path to its door to sample the specialities made fresh on the premises. Attached to a neighbourhood dance school, La bodega also hosts live music and local events with some regularity.
It was Ron McKenna, esteemed restaurant reviewer for Glasgow's Herald newspaper that first gave me the heads-up about La Bodegas in his glowing four star review. Having whetted my appetite with his mouth-watering descriptions I thought I'd check it out, but got rather pathetically lost. Its definitely one of those places where a map or satnav would come in handy when trying to find it. La Bodegas has since become a firm favourite with the offspring.
On La Bodegas rudimentary website there is a link to Ron McKenna's review; well worth reading in some detail if you are thinking of heading out west. You can get there by bus, or by taking the train to Scotstounhill Station. If you're driving then do take a map!
