“An oasis just off Sauchiehall Street”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

If you think the Scots only drink Tennents and McEwans, spend an evening in the State. Great ale selection, fantastic atmosphere in a traditional pub with a central 'island' bar. Don't miss!

Great pub with amazing circular bar dominating the pub. Relaxed atmosphere and good selection of real ales- highly recommended.

“a haven in an area saturated by bland bars”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

This is a haven is an area surrounded by so many awful student bars on Sauchiehall St and equally banal office workers cocktail bars on Bath St. This is a pub with an amazing bar in the centre of the room, interesting Glasgow theatre memorabilia on the walls and plenty of interesting barflys. There are enough tvs so that one knows the football score without feeling like Gary Lineker and co are haunting you. Selection of beer on draught is decent if unspectacular, some interesting bottle choices and a nice range of malts. What more does one want.

“Hogmanay in Glasgow”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

We spent a few hours on New Year's eve in this lovely Glasgow bar and we were not disappointed . Friendly bar staff ,a typical Glasgow pub where you can sit and relax and enjoy a few pints.
