Oct 5, 2008 | Trip type: Friends getaway

Just returned from a stay at the Menzies Glasgow and had to write and say what a great place it was.
Hard to find a hotel in Glasgow where you can park the car without costing you a fortune, there was a car park £3 per day and loads of off street parking too. Only a 2 minute walk to the city centre so a great location.
Room was fantastic, 2 double beds, loads of cupboards, even a fridge too which was great. Bathroom was lovely too. Could see motorway from the room and expected a noisy night, but never heard the traffic at all, in fact never heard any noise outside the room which is a treat.
Also liked the ice machine outside the lifts, which was very handy!!
Breakfast in the morning was fantastic, hot food was replenished when running low, huge choice of cold and hot food.
Never used leisure facilities but they looked great, just a shame we didnt have time to enjoy them.
My only complaint (but it is a little one) was that we received a wake up call at 6.20am on the sunday morning when we hadnt ordered one!! Mentioned this to reception and they were very apologetic. Staff were extremely helpful and very friendly

booked our stay at the menzies based on trusty tripadvisor, and once again we werent let down!
This is a great place to stay. Handy to get to from the motorway, easy to find (its signposted) great location about 10 mins walk from central station and the main shopping areas, and cheap parking! Whats not to like?
If you dont need your car to get about during your stay, then where else can you park securely all day in a major city centre for £3?
I know what some reviewers mean when they say the outside could be off putting, especially the local area which is a mixture of old warehouse type buildings, wasteland, and building sites.....but honestly if you know you can expect this before you get there its just not a problem. I've no doubt the area will be undergoing regeneration anyway.
The hotel itself inside is smart, bright, modern, clean and comfortable. Just lovely. The staff are friendly and helpful, extremely so!
Rooms ultra clean, with the strongest power shower i've ever used and plenty of thick towels. Little bars of fruit cake to accompany the tea and coffee, very nice touch!
The pool and gym were clean and smart (and very welcome to be able to chill out in after a 5 hour drive)
We only ate breakfast here not dinner, but again this was brilliant, plenty of choice and well cooked.
Staff at breakfast again were friendly and polite and they cleaned tables and cleared plates as soon as they were done with, which is sometimes a rarity in these 'chain type' hotels -and can i just add from a personal point of view, loved the unobtrusive classical music that was being played. Makes a change from bon jovi type music assaulting your eardrums at 9 o clock in the morning which again so many 'chain type' hotels seem to think makes a great accompaniment to breakfast .....
overall just a great great place to stay and a credit to the management and staff!!

ps The venezia restaurant about 5 mins down the road.....can recommend!

stayed at the menzies 15th September for our 40th Wedding Anniversary treat from our daughter . We were treated like part of a family and were spoiled by Lenny and his fantastic team of staff. Nothing was too much trouble. We upgraded and found ourselves in a loft style apartment , courtesy of the Manager. It was great l So much value for money. we couldn't fault anything about the hotel which in this day and age is rare .British hotels don't seem to do "old fashioned service" any more which is sad for British tourism. Loved the food in the Resteraunt , it was impeccable .I had the King prawns followed by the Steak which was to die for ! Hubby 's meal was equally as good .Thanks Richard .Congratulations to Lenny for his remarkable hotel . Our best wishes to "old" Brian the concierge who is also celebrating his 40th Anniversary this year . He was so helpful- parking the car and booking us into resteraunts etc. Thanks Brian. Many many thanks Lenny for making things so special . Highly recommended ..!!!!!!

What a great stay in Glasgow, thanks to all the staff at the Menzies Glasgow Hotel. Top class food in the evening and great value fo money.

The rooms were clean and very well conditioned and quiet! Something hard to find in a busy street with buses and taxis travelling by all day and night. Reception staff were very helpful and concierge couldn't help enough on everything we wanted to know.

All in all the stay was very pleasant and the only complant if I have to, is that it is used for tour groups and can be a bit noisy in the restaurant if dining at the same time (7pm).

I would recommend anyone visting Glasgow to book a night or two here!

  • Liked — The quiet rooms and staff
  • Disliked — The tour groups shouting loudly

One of the diamonds of Glasgow!

We booked the hotel for the start of a special long weekend, and an excellent choice.

One of the fastest checkin's i ever received and with an extra special bonus we were upgraded to one of the mini suites.

We ate in the restaurant AND another find! We could not fault the AA for the rosette the restaurant received, I wish more hotel's would take a look at the Menzies Glasgow to see how it's done!

We didn't use the leisure facilities (I didn't bring my trunks) but did speak to a young family at breakfast and they could not stop raving about it.

The whole hotel looked professional and was run professionally, I’ll be back sooner rather than later and I won’t be waiting for another anniversary.

  • Liked — The qualityof food and excellent service from the staff.
  • Disliked — I only stayed for 1 night.
