“Short family break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2014

Great location and facilities..pool, spa, parking etc. ... also very helpful staff. We had a lovely big room with dual aspect views. Only a short walk into centre of Glasgow...Would definitely return to The Menzies

The Menzies Hotel was obviously a very classy Hotel in the past but the signs of age are beginning to show with marked stairways and tired furniture. Don't let that put you off because the rooms are still large, well equipped and clean and the staff both friendly and professional. The Hotel also has a large Secure Car Park (opposite the Hotel) and charged at £4 per 24 hour day

Our room included a King size bed and it still left room for a coffee table and two Armchairs. The Bathroom had a good power shower mounted over the bath but we cannot help be disappointed with the use of plastic shower curtains instead of a glass partition. Other positives are the Fridge and free Wi-Fi in the room and the free fresh milk if you ask reception.

The Bar had a good menu and the Ham, Eggs and Chips were amongst the best I have ever tasted, however, the draft Beers were not up to much (might have been a one off). Breakfast was really good but don’t leave it too late because the fresh food dried up towards the end of the sitting. There was fresh loaves of bread and Rolls, choice of fruits and yogurts and a selection of meats or cheeses. On the hot side, there were the normal selections plus Haggis.

The Hotel also features a very good spa area, which includes a Pool, Jacuzzi, Sauna, Steam Room and Gym along with various treatments available (at extra cost).

Stayed here for 3 nights. The check in was very quick and professional. Shared a very double room, plenty of room, hairdryer, tv, fridge and sofa. The breakfast was adequate for my needs, however the food on offer was not always available. I did not use the spa facilities, but a colleague commented on how good it was. Bar service was good ans all the staff we met were very polite and friendly. The hotel was perfect for the Conference at SECC- about a 15 minute walk, otherwise quite a bit out from bars and the night life.

The hotel is situated on edge of the city centre. The rooms have good amounts of space, although decor could do with an upgrade. The sofa-bed was not good as a sofa, although may have worked well as a bed. My bathroom was a bit small and there was limited water pressure in the sink (just a dribble). The shower was at the other extreme of force. Bed was comfortable. The free wifi worked consistently well throughout the hotel. There is a small swimming pool. The surrounding area is underwhelming with views of either flyovers or semi-formed car parks. The staff were friendly. This is straightforward reasonably priced hotel.

The hotel is situated up a culdesac surrounded by waste ground very near the river clyde. The location is handy (20 mins walk to city centre and SECC) just off motorway. The hotel is in need of a refurb. We had a double double room. Very comfy bed. No noise. Nice spa and pool. Evening meal tasty. Staff helpful and friendly. Paid £119 room only on expedia. Breakfast was £11 pp (buffet) which we thought was a bit pricey as the same thing in a Premier Inn is £8.ish. Kids under 16 eat breakfast free. There is a taxi rank outside the hotel.

Friendly staff, excellent service, this is a lovely place to stay - and we never even got to try the spa/pool etc! We must go back. Receptionist in particular was very friendly - perhaps because her grandfather and my husband share a name - made us feel very welcome.

The hotel does look a little grubby from the outside and is situated on the edge of town (not sure how convient this would be if you were here on pleasure rather than business even tho its not a huge walk back into the centre). Once inside I was pleasantly suprised. Staff were very friendly, polite and helpful and my room was spacious, clean and comfortable and the double glazing ensured that I wasn't disturbed by the busy traffic.
