Aug 31, 2008 | Trip type: Family

We have just returned from the Menzies Glasgow where we stayed for the weekend to celebrate our sons birthday. The hotel was very easy to find we travelled by car and the hotel was visable from junction 19 on the M8 so no stress at all, also located a very short walk from the Central train station ideal for shopping or a night out.
We had a family room on the sixth floor and was pleasantly surprised. It was clean and well furnished and large enough for the four of us. The beds were comfortable and the room was very quiet we didnt hear anyone else despite the hotel being busy.
Nice little touches that our kiddies loved were the complimentary toiletries and cakes!!! The extensive range at breakfast, the pool and jacuzzi (which they were allowed in) The suitmate in the changing rooms which dried your swimmies. Also the proximity to not just some lovely restaurants and museums but unfortunately for us Macdonalds, KFC, and Pizza Hut.
The staff were courteous at all times and we have already been made to promise to return for our daughters next birthday.
Oh and do not be put off at first glance the hotel could use a coat of paint on the outside but is superb inside x

I stayed for 2 nighs at the Menzies, excellent value £130 for 2 nights B&B pus evening meal one night., booked with late rooms. The staff were polite and friendly. The rooms were clean and spacious. The bed was really big and comfy. Breakfast was help yourself with lots of choice and dinner was a 3 course - food was excellent. I made use of the facilities using the gym sauna and swimming pool - fantastic althought the pool was a little cold. I would recommend to friends and would stay again.

The hotel had that "well managed" feel about it from start to finish. The room was well furnished, perfectly clean and great value for money. Its in a good location, too. Within walking distance of the station and stores, and its easy to get to by road.

I booked a twin room for myself and a friend as we wanted to treat ourself to a night in Glasgow. I chose this hotel due to its proximity to both train stations and Glasgow's main shopping streets as well as the all important factor of the hotel having a gym and pool area. I got a rate of £92/night for the room.
I dropped an email to the hotel explaining that we were staying as a birthday celebration (which was true!) and to my delight we were upgraded to a luxury apartment.
The second floor apartment (023) was lovely with a seating area, kitchen and raised bed area, the bathroom had a seperate bath and shower with the most powerful spray I've ever experienced! The decor was modern and lovely with wooden floors and exposed brickwork. Unfortunately the air-con didn't go any lower than 18 degrees and as a city centre hotel it was extremely hot and stuffy and even with all the windows open we found it way too warm.
The pool area was simple but had all you needed, medium sized pool (though a little cold due to water heating problems), a large jacuzzi and sauna and steam room. The only fault was that there was no water fountain near the pool area and you either had to buy water or go to the gym for it (hint: take a bottle down with you). The hotel gym it was extremely well equipped and the air-con here seemed better than that which was in the room as it was nice and cool.
It's only a 10 minute walk from the hotel to the shops and stations and there is also a small Tesco 5 minutes away which stays open until 10pm. The hotel is located in a slightly dubious looking area with building sites and derelict ground nearby, however inside the hotel is lovely and perfectly located for a weekend shopping trip!

  • Liked — Tip: Venezia restaurant just up the road from the hotel has lovely food and excellent value for money.

Jul 14, 2008 | Trip type: Couples

Booked a 2nite package with a popular late hotel room website - and got a good rate of £64.,50 a nite including breakfast both mornings and dinner on one evening. From the outside the hotel doesn't look too great - but inside its lovely. There is a car park with plenty of spaces accross the road that is £3 per night which is very good value! And the hotel is well positioned for a short walk into glasgow town centre for shopping, and a night out - this walk takes approx 10-15mins depending on walking speed! The swimming pool area was lovely - althought the jacuzzi was closed for the duration of our stay which was a bit disappointing. Breakfast was ok, and dinner was very very nice! We had a £17 and we had the £15 3 course set meal, and all 3 courses were delicious! The room was modern, well decorated, and very spacious - and the cakes and mineral water were nice touches. The only disappointing thing was when we checked in we were asked if we would like a wake up call which we said we did not... and the first morning we were woken at 5.50am and then again at 6.05am!!!! When asking reception why this had happened when we had not requested it we were told that there was a problem with the server and it was not picking up when previous guests had checked out and therefore repeating the alarm! very disappointing as we had gone for a break and as we are both light sleepers were awake from 6am!! Apart from this everything else was lovely, and i would return to this hotel again. Xx

  • Disliked — early wake up call!!
