Stayed at the Menzies twice in 3 months, first visit with 5 friends second time a spur of the moment trip away with my mum. Both trips have been excellent.

The hotel is very clean and kept to a high standard. All the staff are very friendly, special mention to the bar staff. We arrived in the bar at 2125 and asked if they were still serving food, they stopped at 2130 but there was no problem with us ordering food so late. I have stayed in plenty of hotels that would not have served so close to finishing time.

Both visits our rooms have been very spacious and clean. On the second visit we were allocated a disabled smoking room, there was no problem changing our room to a non smoking room the reception staff were very friendly.

Pool is very nice and staff very friendly. Food is excellent and breakfast are great.

Also there is a secure car park across the road. We left the car in the car park all day after we checked out, the hotel had no problem with this.

Overall a wonderful hotel that I would recommend for any one visiting the city.

Ok, it's a 4 star hotel and to be fair, the food was good. Our experience, however, was spoiled by officious and unfriendly staff. When I arrived with my young daughter we weren't allowed entry into our room because I didn't have a pin number for my credit card. No attempt to resolve the matter - we had to wait until my wife arrived five hours later. When we did eventually get into our room, we discovere it was very cold as the heating was not working. After quite some time, a small electric heater was supplied.

After dinner, my wife was escorted to the reception desk because her credit card pre-authorisation slip appeared to have been lost. The Manager even phoned the previous member of staff, who had gone home, to check. They had lost the form but the hotel staff seemed less than apologetic. Very embarrassing.

The staff at the leisure centre and the serving staff appeared helpful and friendly. I feel however there is a management problem here and a number of people could do with some training in customer care.

  • Liked — Food. good pool and leisure facilities
  • Disliked — Staff attitude - lack of customer care

My boyfriend and I are just back from a 2 night stay at the Menzies and we'll certainly be back. I don't usually post on websites like this unless I have had a particularly bad - or good - experience. I have had a lot of bad experiences lately (I stay in hotels fairly regularly through work) so it makes such a nice change to be able to say something positive about hospitality in the central belt...
I was a bit wary beforehand having never stayed here before (usually book into the Marriott after a disasterous previous experience at the Hilton) but everything was fabulous and I have absolutely no complaints whatsoever.
When we arrived, the website I'd booked through (hotelconnexions.com) had obviously not paid any attention to the fact that I'd specified that it had to be a non-smoking room, but we were given just that... I cannot stand the smell of stale smoke that permeates a room (and cannot understand why, in this day and age, that people are still permitted to smoke in hotels - it's disgusting and shows no respect for the property nor the people who have to use the room after you. Go outside if you have to smoke). Anyway, the lovely and very professional lady receptionist on duty got us moved to an upgraded (at no extra cost) family room and it was perfect.
The hotel is welcoming, warm, cosy, clean, modern, everything is fresh and new, attention is paid to detail and the staff (particularly the young concierge) are naturally friendly and helpful. We didn't use the pool (unfortunately there was no time) but we will next time. It looked beautiful.
We are always going to book into the Menzies from now on (sorry Marriott).

  • Liked — The whole feel of the place
  • Disliked — The fact that it still has smoking rooms - why?????

We stayed for 2 nights at the Menzies in Glasgow, taking the plunge in Glasgow instead of Edinburgh an occasional weekend retreat. Having followed the advice of an earlier review we found the cheapest rate was with flybe.com
The hotel is about 5 minutes walk along a wide and fairly busy road to the Central station and start of the city shopping and nightlife/restaurants. This area was ok but we much prefered the Merchants City where we found everything quite laid back yet busy, approx £4 in a taxi (excellent Russian restaurant). We have really warmed to Glasgow!
Anyway, back to Menzies the room was a good size and had a nice king size bed as well as a table and 2 armchairs. The leisure facilities are top notch and were not busy at all the whole weekend. There is also the opportunity to receive beauty/massage treatments which was our only BIG let down of a great weekend, we planned our day around both receiving a treatment later in the afternoon and when we returned to the hotel we were told there had been a double booking! A big disappointment but don't let this put you off a great hotel.

This week I stayed at this hotel for what should have been the whole week but due to the unforeseen nature of my business unfortunately my stay lasted only three nights.

I must say that I was very impressed indeed at the overall standards I found at this hotel . Everyone from the reception staff to the cleaners who cleaned my room (to an immaculate standard) were very friendly and welcoming.

The rooms were large, comfortable and well furnished. The en suite facilities were spacious with a good large bath and overhead power shower with water pressure such that it gave an excellent shower. Towels and a bathrobe were also supplied together with a selection of shampoos etc.

The beds were extremely comfortable with a good selection of pillows and cushions supplied. There was plenty of wardrobe and drawer space, and an iron & coffee and tea making facilities as well as a mini bar (£50 deposit to stock) are to be found in the room.

The television had a good range of channels although some of the satellite channels were not working during my stay. Add to this internet access available from the keyboard supplied and attached to the TV or via wi-fi on your own laptop and there's plenty to keep you entertained.

Breakfast was taken in the downstairs restaurant where you are shown to a table on arrival & your choice of coffee or tea and toast is brought to your table very quickly and efficiently. Thereafter it's help yourself buffet style with a good selection of fruit, cereals, juices etc on offer together with the usual cooked options. The restaurant is, as the rest of the hotel, immaculate and the service first class ! I didn't sample dinner but I have no doubt the food and service would be of a similar high standard. I'm booked to be back at this hotel next week for two weeks (work permitting) and may sample and report on dinner then.

Similarly, I didn't have a chance to try out the leisure facilities during my brief stay but hope to do so on my return.

I was originally going to stay at Jury's Hotel where my colleague was staying but I needed a hotel with car parking facilities and so chose this one. I am very glad that I did and found this gem of a hotel & whilst there's nothing at all wrong with Jury's, in comparing the two it's clear I made the right decision.

I had a quick drink with my colleague at one point in the hotel bar which is a great place to relax & he readily agreed that it was a very nice place to be !

I have no hesitation at all in recommending this hotel to anyone looking for somewhere pleasant to stay whether on business or for pleasure & I look forward to returning again next week for what will hopefully be a longer stay !
