We were in Glasgow for only one night so we chose the Millenium for its central location and we were not disappointed. The weather was cold and blustery when we were there in March so we were pleased that pubs and shops were all a very short walk from the hotel. The city tour bus stops right in front of the hotel and the train station is next door, very handy for getting the train to Edinburgh, our next stop. (We didn't hear the trains at all from the hotel.) We had a spacious, comfortable club room overlooking George Square. It was quiet and clean with all the amenities provided. The high ceilings and large windows gave it a pleasantly old-fashioned feel. The staff was courteous and professional and made us feel welcome.

We had a very spacious club room facing George Square which was on the second floor (room #202). There was a lot of space in the room which also contained 2 arm chairs and a coffee table, a desk and chair and a good sized cupboard. The room also had lovely high ceilings which gave it some "old world" charm.

We had an entry hall which lead onto a spacious bathroom. We thought the bathroom to be a little dirty and mouldy in places. The towels were poor and the in bath shower's screen was inadequate (which meant a wet bathroom floor after each use). The fixed hairdryer set up was very strange and inconvenient during use (was fixed to the desk in the bedroom).

There was a mini bar in the room which was half stocked and not plugged in. We did plug the applicance in to find that it didn't work! We decided not to bother about it in the end because to actually get all the mini bar items available required a phone call to the hotel service staff.

Coffee and tea making facilities were provided.

The safe in the cupboard didn’t seem to work.

Housekeeping seemed a little sporadic at times.

We found the George Square frontage a little noisy but not too disruptive overall. It was fun looking out at the view.

The hotel’s location was excellent, right in the centre of the city and close to the shopping mall, main city sights and pubs and restaurants and transport.

The hotel breakfast was fine (included in rate).

There were some internet facilities provided in the hotel lobby.

The club lounge had 2 computers with complimentary internet access and a printer. There was also a club drinks hour which provided very limited drinks. The best thing about accessing the club in the mornings was the tasty complimentary pancakes that were cooked and offered in the hall.

No real information was provided in the compendium.

Jan 7, 2008 | Trip type: Friends getaway

We booked in at the beginning of January 08. We had a lovely time, the hotel staff were very friendly. Hotel very quiet due to the time of year and staff very attentive. Our room overlooked George Square and was great for shopping/nightlife. Only complaint from me would be the state of the carpet. It did have a few stains and it did look unpleasant. We ate in the hotel brasserie and the food was very good and good prices.

Club room was a bit disappointing. Whenever we visited the club room for coffee, we had to go hunting for milk etc. Would also expect to see some little snacks/nibbles in the club room - a muffin with my coffee would have been great.

Facilities at the hotel were very good and the public areas were very welcoming and comfortable.

A good value hotel.

The hotel is next to the train station and I found it impossible to sleep as the noise of the trains at my end of the hotel was unbearable. On top of that the road in front of the hotel is very busy and noisy as well. I live on a busy road myself so am used to sleeping with traffic noise but this was terrible with regular horn beeping/shouting/doors slamming outside.
I ordered a bottle of wine to my room which after calling to chase twice arrived almost an hour later.
Breakfast - milk provided on the table for tea and coffee was off. Self service bacon and sausage was cold.
Room was very tatty and in need of a lick of paint , no mini bar or water in the room - I was looking forward to a nice soak after the flight up but previous occupants private body hair was still in the bath - yuk.
I will never ever stay here again. Don't do it!

The hotel reception is very presentable with the lobby bar being a nice place for a pre-dinner, post-shopping cocktail - if you can get seated......it is too small. Especially when, as was the case when we were there, there were xmas parties going on and the party guests were using the bar facilities. Paying hotel guests were left standing around with their drinks which isn't good customer service.
The room we had was ok but the bathroom was tiny. The sound proofing to the street (overlooking George Square) is excellent as we hardly heard a thing. The sound proofing to the hotel lobby outside the room is another thing entirely - you hear everything!
The breakfasts are ok but could do with a major rethink. The toast machine takes ages and if there's a queue you needn't bother trying. The haggis was a thick gloopy mush (not as a haggis should be - god help overseas visitors having their first taste!) and the scrambled eggs were tasteless. Also - there was no water on offer which is unusual nowadays. Saying that, the sausages and bacon were lovely.
Overall, I don't think we would stay here again and would prefer to look around for other central hotels which try harder for their guests. I cannot however fault the reception staff who were very pleasant and helpful throughout our stay - a credit to the hotel.
