We chose the White House apartments based on TripAdvisor, and were not let down. We arrived early and were able to leave our luggage and had the keys provided immediately. This allowed us to tour until late and be able to go straight into our apartment. And Wow!! We entered perhaps one of the largest, most luxurious suites ever. Complimentary mineral water and shortbread cookies greeted us on the table. We had a separate kitchen, awesome bathroom, view out and quick access to a private courtyard. Everything was super-clean and comfortable.

Every kind of item a person might require for a short or long-term stay was there. There were lots of value-added features at no additional cost: about 50 choices of TV channels (much enhanced from the usual 4 or so), laundry facilities, and internet access. Front-desk staff were extremely friendly and helpful during our stay. They helped to arrange taxis for the airport, and also held a package for our friends to pick up a week later. And now they have sent us an e-newsletter informing us of additional improvements for future stays.

It was an easy half-kilometre walk to get to a series of stores including a small corner organic grocery store, and a coffee shop. We were about 2 km walking distance to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and other museums, as well as the University of Glasgow. Another kilometre took us to the centre of the city.

Although we did not have a vehicle, we know the White House is in a very good location to drive out of town as we had friends pick us up and take us on a tour of the countryside. Taxi fare from the train station was under £10 and the trip to the airport was a flat fare of £12. We will definitely go back to the White House next time we’re in Glasgow!

  • Liked — Luxurious surroundings, felt like living in Victorian opulence
  • Disliked — only that our stay was too short!

The Whitehouse studio apartment we had was clean, spacious and comfortable. The furnishings and bathroom were a little dated, but everything worked OK and it was excellent value. The location was peaceful and pleasant, but we stayed at a rainy weekend and it did seem a long, wet walk to anywhere for dinner. Staff were very friendly and efficient.

We booked on the basis of the reviews on Trip Advisor. Perhaps this gave us unrealistic expectations given the glowing reports we had read. We concluded that ones experience would be dependent on the room you were allocated.

We booked a one bedroon apartment and were shown to room 21 up in the attic. We entered a small lobby with bathroom to the right and then the bedroom also on the right. We climbed up a small step to the main living area which was extremely spacious having enough room for a sideboard, chest of drawers, three piece suite, coffee table, side table, dining table and four chairs and a large, wall-mounted flat screen TV. The kitchen, which although not enormous, was quite adequate and positioned off the living area.

The bedroom was large; dressing table, chest of drawers, walk in cupboard / wardrobe, chair. The bathroom was enormous and had obviously only recently been redecorated as all was gleaming white.

The only problem was the lack of natural light and air. The only light in the vast living area coming from a small window set in a deep recess. The kitchen, bathroom and bedroom were lit by skylights; the former two being ventilated by a fan. This is where the problem emerged. It was an unusually hot and sticky night and because we were unable to open the ceiling window in the bedroom endured a really uncomfortable night (reinforced by the terrible matresss as supported by other reviewers). Although we left the living room window open (a security risk given that access could be gained along the balustrade) there was no through draught.

The next morning we asked if we could be moved given that we found it difficult to breathe in the apartment. The staff (extremely friendly and helpful) did manage to move us into apartment number 29; a studio. We asked if we were due for a refund given that the studios were cheaper and they said no, explaining that they were swapping us with people who were booked into number 29 and they would efffectively be given an upgrade. They did offer us a complimentary 'cleaning service' during our stay and given our desperate need of some light and fresh air we reluctantly agreed.

Number 29 was another large living space. The bathroom and separate kichen although much smaller than the previous apartment were adequate (although the bathroom could do with having a shelf above the sink and below the mirror). The only gripe really (apart again from the terrible matress) was that the carpet had definitely seen better days (there was an iron scorch-mark visible as you entered) and the rug under the coffee table was decidedly mucky. However, the enormous sash windows (which we could open) made up for these deficiencies.

All in all, slight disappointment given our perhaps unrealistic expectations but generally we were pleased and would return with the proviso that we could choose the room we wanted and they got some decent matresses.

  • Liked — Space, light, friendly staff.
  • Disliked — Terrible matresses, grubby carpet and filthy rug.

Excellent apartments, will defintely stay here again, a real home from home. Tastefully decorated, with great personal detail. Huge bathroom, small kitchenette, which we only really used to make tea and coffee in but is sufficiently big enough and well equipped to make meals.
Lovely lounge/bedroom, large tv, freeview, dvd and video players, we wish we couldve stayed longer!
Free laundry service which was useful as we came back very muddy from loch lomond.
All in all a fabulous, relaxing break and recommended to anyone who wants peace and quiet.

We traveled with another couple throughout Scotland in June, and stayed at the White House Apartments for one night, just before leaving Scotland. We booked it because of the reviews on Tripadvisor, and as always, we weren't disappointed!

We each had a studio apartment, and the location was very convenient to restaurants etc. The staff was lovely, immediately fixing a burnt out light bulb, and we were able to use their computer to print our boarding passes, which was a big help. It felt like we were staying at the home of friends.

I only wish we had stayed longer, both at the White House, and in Glasgow. And the price was very reasonable. I can't imagine a better choice if you are visiting Glasgow!
