I've stayed at this hotel around about 10 different times (passing through for work). I choose it because it's cheap and close to the centre of Glasgow. These are the main reasons.
At around £30 a night with breakfast you really can't complain much. I've pretty much stayed in a different room each time so I've seen how different the rooms can be.
Location - It's located on Renfrew Street which is parallel to Sauchiehall Street (Main road for bars). Renfrew Street is a one way street so if you're driving, I would definitely look up driving directions on a sat nav. I don't drive so I don't know what the parking situation is. It's close enough to everything in the centre that you can walk anywhere. It's about 5 minutes walk from the Subway (Cowcaddens Station). Just totally handy for everything. It's about 15 minute walk (mostly uphill) from Queen Street Train Station and maybe 20 minutes from Central Station (all uphill). If you can afford it, get a taxi. Then walk everywhere.
Rooms - Totally vary. I've had some bad experiences (it's cheap). The last time I stayed there I had booked a single room for 3 nights. I ended up with a double room in the section of the hotel that's just been done up. It was a really really nice room. View onto the back garden. But the shower didn't work so when I got in I after being out I had to change rooms, to a small one but I suppose thats what I was paying for so I shouldn't complain. Most of the time the rooms have marks on the walls and it's not that comfortable but if you aren't fussy it's fine like. It's very quiet because of the one way street. There is no lift, so if you have a lot of suitcases try and get a ground floor room.
Accessibility - As mentioned, there is no lift but there is also a series of steps up to the hotel. If you struggle with stairs, bear this in mind. Maybe avoid or ask the staff to give you a hand.
Staff - Possibly the best staff I've ever had. Apart from the location, they sell the place. They are always so helpful and nice. When I left my phone in a black taxi the receptionist made a few phone calls to try to retrieve it for me. Really go out of their way.
I usually like to leave my suitcases in the hotel on check out day so I can go grab lunch and they have no problem with this. Just always happy and helpful.
Breakfast - Really good considering it's included in the room price. There is usually
4 types of cereal
Croissants and Pan au chocolat - think it's from a packet but they keep it warm so it tastes good.
Coffee machine - makes latte's and cappucinos and stuff. Nothing fancy
Hot Food - sausages, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, Potato Bread, Beans, Mushrooms and bacon.
Yeah the breakfast is good like. Its just a help yourself for most of it. The hot food is served by the chef, which is nice.
Overall, you get what you pay for. It's not fancy but it's handy, cheap and the staff and breakfast are good.
