Didn't get off to a great start! Was really impressed by the booking on the website - asked for smoking/non smoking as most do but then for individual preferences such as high or low floor, bed type - king, queen, double,, single, away from elevators and such. As someone who hates noise I was really impressed and asked for high floor, smoking room and no definate bed preference just not a single. Was a bit miffed on check in to find I had to ask again for a smoking room and one away from the elevators, changing my allocated room number twice - not a huge issue but what’s the point of asking for preferences f they are ignored?!

When I got into the room I was disappointed - the website makes them look and sound very 'swanky'. The room was perfectly ok, on the small side as per previous reviews but gave the overall impression of a PremierLodge type room - clean, functional, nice/ok but definately not swanky! And to make matters worse - 2 single beds! After driving a few hundred miles and working in the city all day, I really couldn’t be bothered going down to change it. But again, why ask for your preference if you are to be ignored? Plus, the room I was offered when I did a booking enquiry was a queen. Its mentioned several times about having queen sized beds with king sized duvets - I got stuck with 2 singles with single duvets pushed together!

Whinges over, on to the good things! View onto the river was lovely if a little industrial especially during the works on the bridge but still very nice with floor to ceiling windows. The air con worked really well which was more than be said for my usual Glasgow hotel, the Holiday inn. Free internet and DVD player/film loan was fantastic. Really nice White Company toiletries. Nice bathrobe. Best room service menu I have seen - as a lone female business traveller I have to eat in my room frequently and this is by far the best I have experienced. And when the food came it was great too - tasty, piping hot and very 'bistro'.Huge wne/drinks menu too. In fact, I was given the impression that anyhitng on the regular menu could be ordered if you wanted it, nothing was too much trouble! Great veggie choices too. Nice selection of tea/coffee/hot chocolate in the room too and a welcome packet of hobnobs!

The hotels greatest asset is its staff. From the friendly receptionists to the city cafe lady taking room service orders to staff delivering meals, everyone was friendly, helpful and very professional. One the guys cleaning the rooms on my floor even went out of his way after seeing me walking from the opposite end of the corridor to go out onto the landing, call the lift for me then hold the door open waiting for me to arrive - well done, lovely service.

All in all this is a great hotel if you are not expecting the latest boutique hotel as I was after looking at their website. Rooms are clean, comfortable with everything you need in them. Food is great, little touches are nice and staff are fantastic - just maybe read what it says on the booking? But thanks for having me x

I am truly genuinely sorry about the booking information not being honoured when you arrived. Our intention is to allow our guests to choose those optional extras in advance when booking online. I will have a look at this personally to see why the information did not filter through.

Thank you for the comments on your room. It is always great to hear genuine thoughts like these direct from our guests. It gives us the opportunity to build for the future. This is why we feel sites like Trip Advisor are so important to our business and through listening to our guests we have been able to increase the quality and choice of things such as our room service and wine offerings.

I am extremely fortunate to have a great team here in Glasgow. They truly make the hotel come to life and I will ensure that I send your review to all the departments. Each and every one of us thrive on feedback such as this, so thank you for your kind comments, they are much appreciated.

I hope that you can return sometime in the future and if so, please feel free to contact me direct and I will ensure all of your requests are honoured.

The rooms were very comfortable and clean. Service was also excellent. Free broadband internet in the room. Free pass to a health club (with a lap pool) a couple of blocks away. The location is fine if you need to be near the convention center, but is not so great if you're interested in actually seeing the sights of the city. Otherwise, highly recommended.

Thank you so much for your kind words on the hotel. We appreciate all feedback from our guests and it is always pleasing to hear positive reactions to the service we offer.

I note your comments regarding our location; however, Glasgow as a city is becoming much more dynamic these days and is expanding at a tremendous rate. There is a great focus on the redevelopment of the River Clyde and we feel that we are strategically situated in the heart of this regeneration project. Our location will become much more central in the future with the addition of the new transport museum, a new 12500 seat Arena at the SECC and other retail and commercial activity along the banks of the River. This will create a real hub of tourist attractions, which will include the existing Science Centre, IMAX Cinema, Braehead Shopping Centre and Tall Ship.

We are looking forward to a bright future and being an integral part of the continued growth of our fair city.

I was very impressed with this place. First of all, the package myself and my girlfriend were on was fantasic value - £99 for room, breakfast and a lovely pre-theatre dinner in an excellent, airy modern hotel restaurant, which for this range of hotel was a real treat. On top of this the staff were as good as I have encountered at a hotel in this country - efficient, very friendly and knowledgable about the area. An example - our toast was (literally) 5 minutes late at breakfast and without any complaint from us (there was nothing to complain about!) we were given a free bottle of house wine for the 'wait'.

I have stayed in hotels that cost 5 times the amount of this that came nowhere near to impressing me as much as this place, well worth the stay and we shall return very soon.

We have just returned from a one night stay at City Inn. It is almost impossible to commend the staff highly enough for their friendliness, efficiency and high levels of customer service.

Our room was spotlessly clean, well equipped and had a fabulous view of the new bridge and the river. We appreciated the bath robes - not commonly available at such a reasonably priced hotel. With the windows closed there was no evidence of noise (as mentioned in an ealier review) and the air conditioning kept the room extremely cool during the current heatwave.

We had a pre-concert meal in City Cafe. The menu was varied, appetising and catered for my vegetarian choice as well as my husband's preference for meat. The selection of wines and drinks was good, and at reasonable prices for a hotel. It was good to see after dinner coffees served in 'proper' cups rather than the minscule thimbles used in some restaurants. Breakfast the next morning was equally good with a wide ranging cooked menu as well as the usual continental choices.

The hotel is next to the SECC which was great for us as we were attending a concert there. The free car parking was another bonus.

We would certainly recomment the City Inn for a short stay in Glasgow.

  • Liked — Extremely high level of customer service
  • Disliked — Perhaps a larger bath mat would have been useful - too many drips!
  • Tips/Secrets: — If you are going to a concert or event at the SECC then this is an ideal venue - but book your pre concert meal in advance - it wad very busy!

Superb resturant. Room unfortunately let down by a surprisingly small en-suite.

Apart from the size of the en-suite and the Air Conditioning which didn't work, not much to complain about. Nothing much to shout about either. The resturant however is a different kettle of fish, this alone lifts this hotel above the Travel Inn type hotel (although the bathroom in the average Travel Inn is about 4 times the size).

If you are staying in Glasgow, want to be beside the river, enjoy a good meal and don't fancy a post dinner walk, then if you can get a good rate (inclusive of breakfast) this could be the hotel for you.
