I have stayed in a number of Glasgow hotels recently and the City Inn is by far my favourite to date. Every member of staff we encountered couldn't do more to help us and were all a great advertisement for the friendliness of Glasgow.
The room was of a high standard, especially since we were on a ridiculously reasonable £50 a night rate. Yes it was small, but I have never been in a modern hotel that has large rooms and felt it was efficiently compact with CD player, power shower and all the extras you would expect. VERY comfy bed!! They even noticed we had wine with us and there were wine glasses waiting when we returned to our room without us having to ask.
Breakfast was very pricey but top notch, I probably wouldn't take it every day but it was lovely to laze on a sunny Sunday morning and look out at the river. We didn't eat at the City Cafe but it has a fabulous reputation in Glasgow so is recommended.
Location wise you wouldn't walk back from the City Centre at night but it is a short taxi journey and a nice walk during the day. Its also a 20 min walk from the West End and on the doorstep of the SECC.
I am definitely going back soon!
