“Good Location for sec & Hydro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2014

Good hotel in excellent location for visiting the sec or the Hydro, rooms were clean and comfortable although the two twin rooms we had were quite compact, having said that they had everything you need including a fridge. Staff were polite and efficient, the breakfast was very good with a good selection of both cooked and continental . Would use again if visiting this area.

Dear ork51

Thank you for your review.

I understand your comments regarding the twin rooms – we increased the size of bed to improve comfort for sleeping.

Kind Regards,
Brian

A double and a twin booked through hotels.com and also promised a river view. When we got there we were given 2 doubles (and it was suggested that the twin room was a hopeful request - when it was a definite need) and no river view and a full hotel so no chance of change. I know this was booked through hotels.com but i assume Hilton have some relationship with them or view on the matter). After initially saying room was too small for a camp bed (my request) i asked if at least they could supply extra duvets for the floor. To be fair when i returned later they had managed to put acamp bed in but the guy on reception didnt seem to know that when i asked (or seemed bothered). It's a great location for the SECC and Glasgow Hydro just a very short walk away but wasnt waht i was expecting from a Hilton (feels like it was an Express type hotel and for £123 it really wasnt worth it). Sorry!

Dear Steve N

I am sorry there was confusion with your reservation. We recommend booking directly on our website to ensure all requests are met.

The pricing of the room reflects the location and facilities offered in the hotel including complimentary Wifi throughout the hotel, iMac in every room, business centre, fitness centre and bar and restaurant offering freshly prepared food.

Kind Regards,
Brian

The room was clean, well laid out and very stylish - but the mattress was so firm it was like trying to sleep on the floor - and the bed was so high that rolling out of bed in the morning felt like falling off a cliff - and I'm a fairly tall woman! On the other hand all four pillows in our room were too soft. We had booked a double room for two persons, but when we arrived were only supplied with one hand towel and one bath towel between us ... a fact we didn't discover until we were showering next morning. The chambermaid did appear to notice this and we had a full set of towels the second night.

The double glazing in the rooms is excellent, cutting out almost all the external street noise (we heard no noise from the motor traffic but we did hear the noisy hen party going past shouting and singing in the early hours of the morning - but only just).

The hotel advertises its complimentary WiFi - but for the three days we were there I was unable to connect with either my smartphone or my tablet. Fortunately each room is supplied with a computer, even if it is a Mac.

However the breakfasts were fantastic, the staff very friendly and helpful, and the location - for us - could not be beaten.

Dear bosswolfette

Thank you for your review.

I am delighted you found our location to be ideal and enjoyed breakfast.

You may be interested that our accessible rooms have beds at a lower height if you prefer, we can also provide different pillows on request.

I am sorry that the room was prepared for 1 guest, the additional towels are stored in the wardrobe when this happens.

Kind Regards,
Brian

This was our second visit and it's still my first choice when going to the Hydro for an event. Yes the rooms are small but they're quiet, comfortable and clean. The restaurant is good and vending machines, in our case for late night ice cream, useful. We got a flash sale rate on the Hilton website which I found to be competitive.

My daughter and I stayed for 1 night for a concert at the Hydro. It was a bit more on the expensive side but as I wanted a hotel near the hydro was more than willing to pay it. The room was on the smaller side than some I have stayed in but for 1 night it was fine. Bed was a bit hard and bedding was a bot noisy when turning over, but that's a personal preference. Shower was excellent and we enjoyed having the iMac tv in the room. Can't comment on the food as didn't eat there.

Overall a very good hotel if you are planning to attend an event at either the Hydro or SECC.

Clean and modern and liked the Apple and fridge but have to say for 2 adults it was a squeeze and very little space for bags and so on. My 2 children had next door room and they said it was ok size wise but for me it was too cramped. Bathroom was nice but again small! Breakfast was fine and staff were nice. Enjoyed Glasgow and all it has to offer. A real up and coming feel to the city!
