Stayed at four of the City Inn, Chain so far. This one is probably the weakest so far.

Strong points. Good riverside location, modern business facilities. Bar staff were excellent and helpful.

Weak Points. Bedrooms starting to show tiredness. Bar is soul less despite great staff. Reception took 40 minutes to find an ironing board. Made mistake of eating in restaurant, waited 30 minutes for starter which was a really tiny and cold portion of risotto. Waited 40 minutes for overcooked and dried out Fish. The Restaurant manager worked hard to keep people happy, but the chef was not of sufficient quality to justify the prices serving poor quality food. The delay was blamed on a surprise group booking, this amounted to eight ladies in one party. Surely a hotel should be able to cope with such a small variation in numbers.

There is no meaningful alternative to eat at nearby.

A very modern building which on first seeing has the impression of an office block in a developing area, once inside, however the staff and building are welcoming and functionally comfortable. Quick checking in process with excellent, clean and well equipped rooms. Breakfast was excellent with attentive staff and a nice view over the river and new bridge. The walk was a little long to the city centre along the river footway, but pleasant enough a walk, I may however be concerned for females walking alone between city and hotel especially at night. The hotel itself however is faultless and easily found as it sits beneath an old restored dockland crane which is preserved as a local landmark.

  • Liked — modern lines and excellent equipment in rooms
  • Disliked — walk to city, but cant have everything as well located at riverside

On this occasion we missed out on our usual rooms at the Malmaison and Glasgow was fit to bursting so we took this more expensive room at City Inn. Very expensive for what it is.

Check in was quick and efficient. The girl on the desk handed us a sheet of paper explaining that Take That were playing at the SECC (next door) that evening and this could cause problems with busy breakfasting. Needless to say, breakfast in the room was the better option - isn't it always?

The room itself was functional but a bit bland and corporate for my liking. The bed was comfortable. The shower-room (no bath) was very very small and more than a little claustrophobic. Very good shower though. There was only one bath towel and one hand towel which was odd and one bottle of shampoo. Meagre to say the least.

This hotel is well situated for the SECC and for the Science Centre (great 3d cinema) but it is a taxi ride from town (£5).

Glasgow is a great city, there are plenty of places with lots of character. This hotel isn't one of them. It takes a lot and gives the barest minimum of effort.

  • Liked — its proximity to the Glasgow Science Centre
  • Disliked — too much like a hospital.

Stopped over here for a nights shopping, as Jurys was full, but found it very stylish!! a little out of town for walking, but the very modern decor was very chic and minimalistic. City Cafe food was superb though a little over priced and not having a bath in our room after a day shopping was disappointing! Great Value for money, but wouldn't pay full rate for it!

I used to stay here at least once a week over the past few years. I have now stopped staying here due not needing to stay in Glasgow as much but to be honest they have increased their prices which I feel @ £100+ is not justified.

It is in a good location at the river and has car parking FOC. Rooms are small and for 2 people it really is a squeeze and could do with a good clean.
Bar is lively & food OK.

I just feel it has just become faceless and like a Travelodge.
