Overpriced, thats one negativet hing im going to say, i mean, theres nothing overly special about this hotel, but you just cant go away from it moaning, because theres really nothing bad about it either. Its all to do with value for money, you get what you pay for, and for this money you could get a whole lot more!
We stayed two nights in October 2007, both nights in the same rooms, both with breakfast.
The rooms:
Clean, nice views over toward the bridge and STV studios, great view of the massive old dockyard crane which stands solo in the hotel car park, looking a bit lost. The minibar was in my view expensive compared to Holiday Inn's, Holiday Inn Express's, Crowne Plaza and even the Sheraton hotels, and the range of items in the minibar was not so good, pop down the local corner shop and you could probably pick out the items yourself, much cheaper.
The bed was comfortable, but not as comfortable as the Holiday Inn Theatreland in Glasgow, or the Crowne Plaza exec floor a couple of hundred metres down the river (Though the Crowne Plaza floors, lifts and lobby is looking a bit dated now), the pillows fine and there was a TFT screen, but the picture was pretty bad, even changing channel etc didnt help.
The soaps etc were standard hotel issue, i commented that they were like a value brand, although all the usual soaps, shampoos etc were there. Like some other hotels in Glasgow and much of Britain, a low cost toothbrush was supplied in the drawer under the TV, the only thing was you had to pay for it, which is a bit cheeky, i mean, how much does it cost to produce a two part generic toochbrush?
The breakfast was nice, though the staff had to be reminded a couple of times to bring the food, and the Coffee never came, and i couldnt be bothered arguing, next day i put my foot down though, had to.
Reception staff were friendly and helpful, a cot was supplied in one room, we needed another for the other room and had requested this, but another was not available, just as well we carry a spare in the car.
The domestic staff were the friendliest i have met, helping with doors, bags, chatting with the children and making us feel at home.
The bar area is nice, drinks well overpriced again though, because the bar was nothing special, clean and slightly trendy, but i wasnt to taken back by the teelight candles in glass dishes on the tables, good for a romantic time away, but i dont think thats what type of clientelle were going there.
The hotel mainly had people on conferences like myself, some older couples, and some young couples, i didnt see any other young families, and since there is no pool etc i dont think its really suitable for children, especially since there was only 1 high chair available in the breakfast room in the mornings.
I cant compain too much, but i guess i've already done so. Its not too bad a place to go, great for a young couple, conference groups or those who work for media companies in the area that have to camp close by.
