Thank you for your reviews. This led to my checking the Kelvin Hotel's website and hurray, they have a self-catering apartment too at an unbeatable price.
My son and I stayed the first night in very quiet, very big ground floor room, en-suite. Comfy beds, hot (if small) shower, big breakfast and the nicest people to look after your well-being. REALLY LOVELY.
Night two and three we were joined by my husband and stayed in next door's apartment (serviced). Small but beautiful bedroom for the kid - comfy doublebed with nice linen. Huge bedroom with real double bed (American kingsize?) for us, ensuite shower room. Also small main bathroom, corridor and kitchen cum living room in phantastic gorgeous magnificent front room of typical terrace house. Chandelier, fireplace, wooden floors, modern kitchen, comfy sofas, dining table, you name it. Could not have been better (and for the price of a hotel room. Now, don't all go at once:)

Booked Kelvin Hotel after having searched here for a nice hotel in Glasgow (two days) and was fully content. Ideally situated close to the Botanic Gardens, subway and buses, Kelvin Hotel is part of the restored historical Buckingham Terrace. I booked a standard single and everything in the room was really excellent for a short stay - tea and coffee making facilities, TV, drying facilities and a comfortable bed. The interior was simple, but everything was clean and practical. There was a really beautiful dining room downstairs with a big choice of cereals and a menu card. The service was friendly and helpful with information. I can absolutely recommend this hotel for travellers with low budget looking for a nice place close to the centre.

Stayed twice at the Kelvin Hotel in May/June 2004. A very pleasant stay with helpful staff, easy to get to & from the hotel, nice breakfast & an interesting neighbourhood. Excellent value for money. Will definitely book there again.

Located on the West side of the city, we were greeted with a warm Glasgowian welcome and shown to our room at the top of 2 long flights of stairs. The climb was worth it, as we arrived to a windowed room looking out onto the fine greenery of the Great Western Road. Breakfast the next morning featured healthy cereals, juice, coffee/tea toast, eggs, bacon and sausages. Everything was grand, but the sausages we have for breakfast in America are not the same as they prefer in Scotland. There are plenty of other choices on the menu, so we were fine. They were happy to lend us both a wine corkscrew and a voltage converter (though we couldn't figure out the workings). The proximity to the fabulous botancial gardens as well as a nearby underground train station was fortunate as well. The price is also rather sweet and all in all our expectations were exceeded.
