The Necropolis has some fantastic views ove the city of Glasgow. The monuments are interesting too. It is a bit of a steep walk up to and around it.

“Really Great.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

I visited Glasgow for work in the Royal Infirmarary and didn't do much research before I went. The necropolis is right behind the hospital so I just stumbled upon in on a lunch break. I really liked it. It is huge and full of very impressive graves and memorials. The views of the city are great from up there as well.

“Unmissable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

No visit to Glasgow would be complete without a walking tour of the Necropolis, a wonderful, atmospheric and of course slightly creepy monument to the great and not so good who have lived and died in No Mean City.

“City of the Dead”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

The Necropolis is located next to the Glasgow Cathedral on a hill overlooking the center of Glasgow. The Necropolis is a vast, well maintained cemetery with large monuments built for wealthy people of years gone by. The word Necropolis literally means “city of the dead”.

After crossing an old foot bridge near the Cathedral I entered the cemetery and started my own self guided tour of the monuments on the cemetery’s hill. From the hill you have a great view of parts of the city and can also see how big the cemetery really is. I did not have any literature on the Necropolis so just walked around and read plaques on the bigger monuments. On organization called The Friends of Glasgow Necropolis offer free tours and I wish I had the time to do that (I will definitely do that on my next visit). The tours are free but they accept donations. There is no fee to visit the Necropolis.

If you are visiting Glasgow I recommend that you visit this beautiful old graveyard.

“Necropolis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

You may or may not think it a little morbid to go walking around a cemetery, but it really is a beautiful spot high up on a hill overlooking Glasgow and the old Cathedral. Beautiful, clean, and peaceful.
