Stayed here for a hen night in the city and met or exceeded my expectations - it IS small but the tall thin building is part of its charm. Good clean bathroom and bed comfy, fittings modern and fun if a little IKEA cheap/chic - everything you need for a night or two incl ironing board and kettle, and the cafe/bar downstairs is quite bohemian - it had some live blues events during our stay.
No problems with our online booking and we could leave our bags in the lobby for several hours after checking out.
Unless you're looking for luxury you won't find a better cheap bed in the city.
Only mar on our experience was the street cleaning starting early Sunday morning.

The Brunswick staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We were very appreciated of that! The rooms were the smallest I have EVER seen, but the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was also the smallest ever and the shower was too small for comfort. However, the room was clean and convenient. The continental breakfast was nice in the AM. The rooms could use just a little bit of upkeep??

  • Liked — The staff were great!
  • Disliked — Rooms got to be a little clausterphobic

I recently stayed at the brunswick hotel and will not be staying there again!!

The nightmare began when we arrived to check in. Our booking had magically disappeared and the receptionist could find no trace of this booking. Even though I had a print out confirming the booking that was booked through their own website!!

Eventually we were booked in and given our room keys. Third floor, so off we went. Only to be greeted as we got out of the lift with a bright red hallway that was just as small as the lift. It was dark and v stuffy. Next we went through a door that led to another pokey little hallway with 4 doors. There was barely enough room to turn around in the hall, so god help anyone who brought a suitcase!

We found our room, amongst the bright blue walls floor and ceilling. For everything to be so small they didn't exactly try to make it appear spacious.

Then the joys of the room, equally as small as the hallways. Big enough for only a double bed with 10 inches between it and the wall to squeeze by. It was the worst night i've ever had. Small stuffy room with no way of getting any air in as the window only opened an inch and it was onto a brick wall.

Oh as for 24 hour bar, nope this didn't happen either, we arrived at back at midnight expecting to get a drink in the bar only to see it closing up. We had to take a drink up to the room as the patio funiture from outside was stacked up in the bar area and to make matters worse the bar staff spoke hardly any english. So as you can imagine I was less than thrilled to have to take my wine back to the little hovel they call a bedroom.

Oh another thing, the included breakfast was a bowl of cornflakes and a bap that you could put ham and cheese in. How exciting!

I've stayed in plenty of budget hotels, but this is by far the worst. Premier Travel Inn all the way!! Amazing hotels, cheap and definately spacious!!

  • Liked — It was clean but that didn't make up for its lack of size
  • Disliked — Small stuff rooms with small stuffy halls, not a good experience

I usually stay in chain hotels in Glasgow but decided to give this one a try and I was certainly not disappointed.
Yes the room was small but I expected that as it did say 'compact', but since all I really wanted to do was sleep there, it was perfect.
Staff were friendly and helpful and the adjoining bar/cafe had character.

We decided to try the Brunswick as an alternative to the traditional B&B - it's in the same price range for those of us that have to pay in dollars! The Brunswick's greatest asset is definitely its location - couldn't be beat. Brunswick Street is in the heart of Merchant City - surrounded by great dining options and amazing shopping. The street was calm and quiet at night. We had a compact double which was pretty small indeed for two people but comfortable enough for just a couple night's stay. I found the bathroom to be falling apart a bit which was too bad as the whole hotel seems not to be very old. The orange tiles in the bathroom were coming up already and I hated the mirror in there - like staring at a light bulb instead of one's face! I would say they could install a shower door instead of the curtain and that would be better in the long run! Staff were very friendly and we liked the bar adjoining the hotel where breakfast was served - not bad for "continental" - choice of cold cereals, yogurt, ham, cheese, croissants and juice plus and a fresh coffee made for you on demand. I don't know if I'd go again to the Brunswick but it was certainly something different, "hipper" and younger feeling.
