“On a tight budget? Or desperate, then worth checking out”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

I was booked in by my employer as I was on a course near by. The decor is very basic. Some of the staff are pleasant, a man, possibly the owner manager is very cheery, but some have an attitude!

The bedrooms are comfortable but look worn out. The breakfast is a heart attack on a plate - very greasy. I was with a colleague and she fared fair worse than me.

We have since stayed at other local hotels which are slightly more, but not much expensive than McLays and found them much better. But each to their own.

We had 2 nights here, we had a massive room for the two of us, with a 42 inch tele 'if thats your bag'. The staff are very efficient and do the best they can to to keep this rambling old place acceptable for the whingers. Breakfast was as good as anywhere else ive been, served with a bonus extra, Scotch potatoe fried scones, superb...enjoy.

Room Tip: Sorry , only saw our own.

I have been to this hotel on several occasions and each time the standards have been very good hence my return visits. The staff are friendly and attend to requests promptly with enthusiasm. The location is good with all that is needed for an enjoyable visit to Glasgow within walking distance.

This place is clean. It's a cost-effective way of spending a night in Glasgow. There's no Wifi in the rooms, but there's free Wifi in the dining room. That was good enough for me. No fancy stuff there, just the affordable basics to spend the night.

Was going to glasgow on a night out for my friends joint birthdays and we were looking for a nice cheap hotel room to stay in. My friend found this place and booked thinking she was getting a good deal. When we arrived at the hotek via taxi the reception was very dated. We then spoke to what i believe to be the maneger or receptionist who was very rude as there was a mix up with payment. We then said it was fine we would all pay sep but was told no. When we got to our room it had cobwebs on the walls and had dirty carpets. When booking online nothing was mentioned about en suite bathroom and shared bathroom so we had to share a bathroom with thevrest of that floor. There was a flat screen in the room which was a plus and the sheets were all clean, there just should have been more info online about bathrooms and payment. It was good for the price we payed, and breakfast was included. The breakfast was good, could maybe do with some fresh fruit and pastries.

Room Tip: Choose ensuite if you have a choice

I have stayed at Mclays a number of times and although it's not luxury it does the job. The staff are excellent and very friendly and helpful. The rooms are a bit run down, but for £25 per night for an ensuite single room what do you expect. By the way, this does include a full cooked breakfast and it's right in the city centre, only a 2 minute walk from Sauchiehall street
