The Sandyford Hotel is a very economical hotel in a nice neighborhood in Glasgow, very close to the Kelvingrove Museum and the park. My mother and I stayed there for 2 nights in June, 2008. There have been some not so nice reviews of the place but I think people have to understand that, for the price, it is not a bad place to stay. This is a major city, after all. Try staying anywhere in New York or another major city for that price!! Yes, they could remodel and charge probably far more but it is what it is - a budget-friendly, charmingly old hotel that still manages to have some nice amenities. The breakfast room was surprisingly cheery (it's in the basement) and clean. Free internet was very much appreciated. They let us into our room earler than check-in time (helpful when you have luggage and walked from the train station). What we really appreciated, however, was one staff member in particular - Colin M. He was pleasant and helpful, booking our taxi and providing other info. But he went above and beyond the morning we had to leave. My mother dropped a diamond earring in the bathroom 20 minutes before we had to catch a cab to go to the airport. Colin went to his car, brought back his own flashlight and tools and proceeded to take the baseboard apart. He found the earring, grabbed both bags and had us in the cab in time. I frankly would not have expected that much effort and conscienciousness from even a much higher rated hotel. Staff service like that is rare - and it weighs heavily when you rate an overall experience.
