Cheerful, economical hotel with major upgrade recently, and any street-side rooms are mostly double-glazed now. Located in West End on the route from city centre to airport. Splendid breakfast ambience, and helpful staff, with Internet available in lobby. Short walk to the museums and libraries, the Scottish Exhibition/ Conference Centre and the University. Useful 'all-hours' shop next door. There are a remarkable number of ethnic restaurants just yards away (including Greek, Thai and Korean) and an award-winning indian restaurant (Mother India) is opposite. The local pubs are typical Glasgow institutions, and can be missed out, but the Park Bar, two blocks away, is home to Highlanders in the city and features their language and music at week-ends. It has excellent early evening pub food.

My parents came to glasgow to visit me a couple of weeks ago. I pass the sandyford everyday on my way home from Uni. I always thought it looked quite nice & decided to call in as I had read mixed reviews on the place. The guy on reception showed me a couple of rooms which were very nice with big plasma tv's & seemed like a bargain at only £27.50 per person, per night, B&B

They were very impressed with their stay at the sandyford hotel.
They liked their room & enjoyed breakfast. They also found the staff very helpful.

The only problem was that the resturant was very busy & had dificulty getting a seat on the saturday morning. The came down at 9.30 for breakfast (last orders at 9.30 wich seems a bit early on a Saturday). It seems the rest of the guests had the same idea of staying in bed & nipping down for last orders. Any way my parents were asked to have a coffee in reception & 1 of the waitresses came up at 9.50 to let them know a table was ready.

My parents are planning to come back to Glasgow in August & will be going back to the Sandyford. I can reccommend this place;
Its 3 stars by Visit scotland. It has been recently refurbished & offers free wifi, my dad hadn't brought his laptop but was able to use 1 of 2 guest computers in reception free of charge.

Outstanding value for the price; great location. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, rooms are clean, and it’s clear that great pains have been taken to tastefully redecorate in a spartan-chic décor, complete with flat-screen TVs. To be clear, this is a three star property; showers are small with average water pressure (only a bodywash dispenser and tiny bar of soap provided, but soap/shampoo/etc. available at convenience store next door). Staff can recommend quiet rooms, as street noise can be an issue with some (others are very quiet and have newer, double-pane windows, which helps). Stairs throughout; not handicapped accessible. While not gourmet dining, breakfast offers a good array of choices to fill you up and start the day...try the porridge/muesli/bacon/yoghurt/apple juice vesus orange juice/scrambled eggs/smoked fish. Good for budget-minded groups – spacious, tasteful lobby with two computers offering free Internet. We booked 19 rooms for about a week’s time during our wedding and received only a couple of minor complaints from our guests. Our room was cleaned and fresh towels were provided each day, but bed linens weren't changed. Excellent location features more than 30 great pubs/restaurants within 10 minutes walk, scenic Kelvingrove Park for a stroll, easy access to Byres Rd/Uni area and a manageable 25 minute walk to the heart of city centre. Taxis and buses are plentiful on Sauchiehall.

  • Liked — Great value for money; excellent location for exploring Glasgow
  • Disliked — Beds of average comfort

When I reviewed the website it looked fine. I should have know when no one responded to me with correct information. I was told they were indeed near the train stations..near if you call 5 miles away. Our room was not cleaned and we were booked there for 3 nights. May 16,17 and 18. On the morning of the 18th, I asked two young maids in the hallway if they could clean our room. Oh yes, they replied. On our return, we did have clean tea cups finally. (The ones we had were the same dirty ones, since we checked in. We never used them.) The beds were made but not changed. Same old wrinkles in the bed sheets and pillow cases. Same human hairs on the floor of bathroom and carpet since we arrived. On our last day we kindly asked the young man at the counter to exchange two 5's for a 10. He refused.!!! So my husband ran around to the corner store looking to buy an item so he could pay the taxi...after we were staying here for 3 nights, we could not get change.!!! The older man who worked mornings was kind and helpful but the younger man, afternoon shift, did not care at all about etiquette. This hotel is not clean, does not care about their customers comfort and will not go out of there way in the smallest way. They need to be honest about their location and announce they do not clean rooms or supply fresh towels, in a 4 night stay. We will never stay here or refer this hotel again.!!! Extremely noisy also.!!!

  • Liked — older male, reception staff, helpful and kind.!
  • Disliked — dirty rooms, location, unfriendly young male afternoon desk staff

We arrived at this hotel and were pleased initially as it looked quite nice. Within an hour I was starting to wonder as the shower didn't work at first so my husband had a look and managed to coax some water out of it, then shortly after it just ran out of water... I was covered in shampoo and had to turn it off, wait a minute then turn it on again. This was the same the next morning with the shower. The staff member at reception was certainly friendly and helpful enough as he called us a taxi and got me a hairdryer to use. The breakfast was a shambles, as we went down at 8.30am and there were no tables, we went back to the room for 35 minutes and went back down, but still no tables. Then one became free through the back but we had to wedge ourselves into the seats and if anyone wanted out to get toast or a coffee it caused a ripple through the whole room. The tables in the front section of the breakfast room had lots of space so the back area seemed like a joke, as no more people could be crammed into the tiny area if they tried. And no, huge wall length mirrors at the breakfast bar bit will never make the room bigger than it really is. I felt the lower bedrooms through the wall could have been sacrificed to make this a less painful experience. I was wishing we had simply left and went somewhere else that we could eat in comfort. The food itself was fine, but the orange juice tasted a bit dodgy, unsure of its origin. The two girls that were waiting on tables were wearing lilac tunics used by carers in nursing homes, which seemed like an odd choice of clothing. Overall the place wasn't too bad, however the red cover on our bed (room 106) was dirty so the hygiene standards didn't stand up to scrutiny.

This is passable as a place to out your head down if you are here simply for a place to sleep while enjoying the close amenities. It was really close to the SECC and local pubs so that redeeems it. The pubs close by closed at 12midnight (on a Saturday as well) so beware if you are looking for a longer evening.

  • Liked — The proximity to amenities
  • Disliked — The shower and breakfast room
