We really enjoyed the night we spent at The Townhouse Glasgow and only regretted that we weren't there for longer. It's in a very elegant crescent lying off the end of Sauchiehall Street and is in the process of being refurbished. We had to go down to the Garden level for our room, but still had a window looking out the front and it was an absolutely huge room with one double and two single beds, a very adequate shower room and cupboard space. It had a polished wooden floor which is unusual in a hotel and a very very very comfy bed, can't emphasise that enough! Staff were friendly and helpful and the full Scottish breakfast the next morning was very good. We only paid £45 for the room for two people, so felt that we'd got really good value for our money. There's parking right in front of the hotel and they have one reserved space for the use of the hotel - a tip is to nip into the hotel and ask if their space is free for you to use. However, even if it isn't, it only cost us £1 for overnight parking. There's also an excellent Italian restaurant just one block away and the hotel is also pretty well placed for the SECC. All in all, a wee gem that we would heartily recommend.

I have never been so disappointed by a place in my life as I was by the Townhouse Hotel. Where do I start?

The room we stayed in (number 3) was quite dirty. The carpet looked as though it had not been vacuumed in weeks. There were hairs, bits of tiny trash, stains of goodness knows what. I was actually afraid to go bare foot on it. The hallway outside our room was piled up 4 feet deep with extra furniture and bags of dirty laundry waiting to be picked up. The room reeked of cigarette smoke. We asked for another room and were shown number 4 which smelled even worse. Clean towels for the second day, were thrown on the floor in front of our room, not put inside and the trash was not emptied either ("short staffed").

The room faces a busy street with an intersection. Since it's an old house, it's not well insulated so you hear the beeping of the crosswalk ALL the time, at all hours of the night. Add the rumbling of late night city buses, early morning garbage trucks and you have a sleepless night on your hands.

The first morning there, we were sent across the street for breakfast at a neighboring hotel since they were "short staffed". The second morning, we had breakfast at the Townhouse - if you can call it that. The orange juice was sour - it had spoiled. Our feet actually stuck to the carpet in the breakfast room - it was so dirty and sticky. The Scottish Health Department ought to shut this place down.

But finally, the cream: The fire exit directly outside the room, is LOCKED by a key. So, if there were a fire in the lobby (which is the only way in or out from the ground floor) one would have to break the window in the room, try and not fall to the garden space below and climb out on the railing to escape. It's incredibly dangerous and quite certainly, illegal. I complained at the front desk and the indifferent clerk couldn't even form an answer. He kept fumbling around with his mouse while looking at his computer screen pretty much telling me "if there is an emergency a staff member will unlock the door."

Excuse me?! You want us to put our faith and trust in a clerk that can't even make eye contact to risk their lives to unlock a door in the event of a fire? That is ludicrous!

To summary: this was the worst place that me or my husband have ever had the misfortune of staying in. It's dangerous, dirty and the staff just simply does not care. Trust your instincts, this place is not worth it. Pay a bit more and go somewhere else. We wish we had now.

I don't think any of the other reviews have quite nailed it. The Townhouse is rough around the edges but you could do a lot worse. I booked last minute and paid £60 for the night. The location is great for the city, SECC and west end. Parking is a bonus.

Staff were genial if not exactly professional "this new computer system has been a right balls up"!

The room was a let down, particularly the bathroom - mildew and dirt in the shower. We had room 1 which was downstairs and looked out on a nasty bit of wasteland. There was a noise during the night which I'm sure was a rat knawing and scrabbling at something under the outside wall, stamping on the floor seemed to rectify the situation!

If you're looking for somewhere to lay your head for the night then this could be for you, I wouldn't imagine you'd want to stay for a long period. It's a shame, with a little effort this could be a nice place, if i were you I'd keep looking and have this as a last resort. For £60 you can do better in Glasgow.

Before setting out for Glasgow I had read mixed tripadvisor reviews of this hotel and my expectations were probably not terribly high. The Townhouse Hotel was far, far better than I had thought it would be. Relatively well located on a beautiful street. A nice, quiet, clean and cosy room. The breakfast was one of the best ones we had while we were in Sctoland. Service was ok. I would recommend trying to get one of the rooms facing away from the street and on ground level (room 4 seemed very nice). Rooms 1 and 2 are under ground level though quite bright and spacious.

i have just discovered trip advisor so my stay at this hotel was some time ago. however after reading the other awful reviews i see things have not improved. I feel compelled to add my review as the experience will never leave me . I have stayed in all levels of hotels all over the world but this place is just downright DIRTY!!! the beds had not been changed from the previous guests and when we asked for new sheets we had to make the beds ourselves , the new sheets were full of holes. The man on reception was drunk and there were hundrerds and i mean hundreds of human hair everywhere in the bathroom on the carpet ......even recounting the place makes me feel sick . Don't go ever!!!!!!!!!!!!
