I stayed in the room one of the other folk complained about , and I thought it was fantastic, this is their cheapest double room and I thought it was great value for money. I was nearly put off by their review and nearly cancelled because of it. But when I got there I looked at the walls expecting them to be thin. They were 2 Ft thick. I never heard a thing. It's really quiet , and the bathrooms were stunning. I also asked who was in the other rooms. There are a lot of doors but only two guest rooms downstairs. And we were the only guests there.
The breakfast was superb. I cant say anything bad about the place at all.
In fact I'd advise you to go by the other reviews praising the place they are more accurate. The folk are nice too. One thing I will say I was really impressed with was the decor throughout , it was like stepping back in time. It is a stunning house with a really special atmosphere. Go you wont be disapointed. Oh! by the way I asked for a bathrobe and got one.

We just got back from Scotland (9 days) and stayed in Bed and Breakfasts the whole time. We spend between $100 and $135 on our accomidations and this was certainly one of the better places.

We stayed in the upstairs room and were the only guests. The owners were friendly, warm, and open to helping us out around the city.

The location was good. Close to the Museum, which is closed, and the restaurants. Everything was in walking distance and they are close to the freeway.

Breakfast was very good and even served in our rooms.

The house itself is renovated and very quite, although a bit dark in areas so make sure you watch your step as you walk downstairs.

The rooms downstairs were small and I would not have been happy if I had to stay there, but the main room was spectacular.

The one thing I have to say is that the main bathroom is downstairs so I agree with some of the other reviews you will need to bring a robe of somesort since privacy is a bit limited. But I would certainly stay there again. My wife and I fully enjoyed our one night stay there.

Having read the reviews I can't help being disappointed
at my one-night stay at the Flower House.

No doubt the owners have put lots of effort and pride in
providing a spotless, cosy accommodation to their guests.

Only one room, I believe the one depicted in their website,
is at the groung floor; the others are at the garden/basement
floor. Our room was small and a bit claustrophobic because
it's quite dark.

My main complaint is lack of privacy; no room has private
facilities, so better bring a dressing gown with you! In the
basement there is only one bathroom to be shared (I believe)
by three rooms. I find this unacceptable in a good B&B.

The bedroom doors are paper thin, actually glass doors!
(with curtains though) I could hear the phone ringing upstairs
as if it was next to the bed (quite a narrow double bed, by
the way).

Another unacceptable aspect is the fact that the owners use
a small kitchen in the basement to prepare breakfast.
While they tried hard not to make too much noise, I was
nonetheless woken up at 7:30am by preparations in the kitchen.
I found this quite annoying, compounded by the very poor
sound insulation. The guests are allowed to check out as late
as 10:30am, but I doubt they would enjoy a long sleep
given all the bustle in and out of the kitchen (breakfast is
served in the rooms).

In a nutshell, I would not recommend the Flower House unless
you're prepared to accept some fundamental shortcomings
in exchange for what is undoubtedly a unique decor.

I guess a must for doll houses lovers with very deep sleep
and limited physiological needs.

Management response from Mothership, Owner
(Management representative)
Feb 24, 2008
This review upset me when I first read it, as the reviewers partner asked for the cheapest room we had available, at the time the cheapest was £50 per night, which is what he chose. They were the only guests that night. It was their breakfast being prepared that woke them up. The bed is 5ft wide and 6ft 7in long. There are lots of doors but only two of them are bedrooms. We have two bathrooms one on each floor. They not only had the use of both bathrooms, but had the whole house to themselves, it doesn't get any more private than that. I saw them at check in and when I took their breakfast to their room, and when they checked out.

As I said the review upset me at the time, but I realise that it's impossible to please everyone.

What can i say but thank you to the proprietors for their kind welcome, fantastic breakfasts, all served in our own room on a tray table, and great hospitality. The great tips on other places to eat and drink in the local, and there are plenty! a good deal on location, midway between the university and city centre. beautiful building and fantastic floral display, even in mid October! Thnanks again oh and FANTASTIC!
