“Basic guest house, too many steps, no wifi”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013 via mobile

This hotel's location can't be beat. It's within close proximity of convenience stores, small cafes, Byres road (shopping and restaurant hub).

When we checked in, the staff kindly helped us with our bags, which was a great relief. However I notice that we were lucky because there were two nice gentlemen on duty. There are days when an older man and a young lady man the reception. So if you have heavy bags , you will need to consider if this is the best accomodation for you.

Not all rooms are on the ground floor, some are on the second and third (!)

We stayed in room 19. There was no wifi and this was a great disappointment. It was promised in the hotel literature.

Another thing to note is to ask your taxi driver to go to Cecil street rather than Great Western Road when you first arrive. This is because there are about 10steps from Great Western Road to the level that the hotel is located. Cecil Street is a side road and it is easy to wheel bags to the hotel which only has a few steps at the entrance.

Toilet is spacious but the water pressure at shower is low. It is after all a 3-star guest house, and rates are thus fair for what you get.

Room was very clean, functional, only 3 coat hangers though. Good location, near the subway, Glasgow Tours bus stop etc, some good bars/restaurants near by although later in the evening they mainly cater for the student clowd. The cistern in our room took forever to refill. Breakfast was OK as long as you didn't have something call turkey rashers - what are they!? Would have preferred Lorne sausages as we were in Scotland, however for the cost per night no real complaints - good value.

Not much in the way of parking, maybe space for 5 small cars at the rear of the hotel. Stairs very steep, so not suitable for elderly or infirm.

Room Tip: Only saw my room, so couldn't comment

We stayed for 4 nights. Fantastic location for city centre, touring or West End. The rooms are very comfortable, breakfast was ample. Staff very friendly and extremely helpful. For a 3 star hotel we felt we had great value for money and will definitely be going back. We had a great time and we thank Ian and all the staff for making it so great. Keep up the good work.

Room Tip: There is no lift, so if you are older choose a room on a lower level.

this was a last minute booking for myself and my two teenage children and we only stayed at the heritage for one night. the entrance to the hotel was slightly confusing as we arrived by taxi and were slightly disorientated by the location! we had been at a party the night before and the 24hr reception was very convenient as we didnt arrive back until 2am and we were welcomed by friendly staff. the family room we had been given was pleasant although the bedding didnt smell very fresh. as we drew back the curtains in the morning we were greeted by the very picturesque view of an old scabby wall. my daughter found it extremely hard to sleep during the night as we were in the basement of the hotel we experienced very loud noises throughout the night. the cooked breakfast was awful. who eats turkey rashers? they were more like solid pink plastic rashers. the sausages were vile and the eggs were poorly cooked. however the fresh fruit on offer was delicious. 2/5, and i am glad we only stayed one night.

Room Tip: request a room on the upper floors if you are staying as a family

We was on a road trip holiday and had booked to stay here on the Monday. Three days into our trip. We had just had a massive crash in the car and had had an afternoon of trying to sort the car out and calming outselfs down. We made it to the hotel and found its actually on a roof of the street below and had to walk around what look like a squat for homeless people at the side.
Walk into the hotel to find they had put us in room 13! We laugh and said what had happened but didn't even get asked if we was ok. Wasnt talkative or looked even bothered. Finally climbed 3 flights of stairs, which even a fit person would find hard.

So the room. Very tiny, the bathroom was clean but the shower had very little power and dripped out. The bed was hard and one very flat pillow. As we was at the top of the building the ceiling was very low and had to duck when getting out of the other side of the bed.
Breakfast wasn't to great either. Full Scottish breakfast but they use turkey rashers but don't state what the sausages are made of?
Would never go back. Glad we was only there one night.
