No security (our room had no lock); not clean; room above office smelled of the managers cigarette smoke; myself and the 3 others I was with all got covered in mysterious bug bites; one working toilet for the whole building; one working shower; disgusting, dirty, musty basement that housed kitchen, shower, lounges; computer room doubles as office where manager chain smokes all day; map with location very misleading - we excepted to walk 3 blocks with our backpacks, but it ended up being about 15 blocks away; everyone in the room was charged a different rate, anywhere from 10 - 17 pounds......we stayed in other much nicer places for only 9!! I have stayed in my fair share of hostels and this one rates as one of the worst ever!! If I could rate it as less than terrible I would!

  • Liked — I didn't like anything about it.
  • Disliked — Everything....but lack of toilet/shower facilities and bed bugs top my list.

This is the most disgusting hostel ever and i love glasgow, this surely is an embarassment to such a cool city.
after booking online and actually looking forward to a good rest as we´d been travelling all day,i was gobsmacked wen i walked into the building.was hit by this horendous dump smell and the guy at the reception looked like he´d just been back from lala land. u cant even call the toilet or bathroom that cuz it was very disgusting and dirty and to be honest i dont know how they manage to stay open. after checking in and been led to our dorm,we just turned around and immediately left the hostel,we were more than happy to spend our drinking money on a hotel for the night but there was no way i´d have stayed in there.

This hostel is a bad joke. It stinks, restrooms and rooms are in a pitiable shape, and the staff is drunk and doesn't care for anything.
Moreover, reservations are not respected (if there is an event in Glasgow and everything is booked up), even if you paid in advance! This happened to us and several other people when we wanted to stay there for a weekend.
Their website is a hoax, do not believe a single word !

This hostel is a joke! The staff at the hostel is clearly unqualified to run a hostel. Here is what has happened to us: We called them up twice in April in order to book a room for the weekend of the Radiohead concert on June 27th 2008. When we arrived we were told that the hostel was overbooked and all hostels in town were full. They asked if we remember at what day we made the reservation in order to find the reservation in their book. They have no clue about dealing with an agenda. I was not sure if I should feel angry or pity for them because they were so hopeless. They then offered us their famous sofas in the smoky lounge for 10 Pounds/person, which was an abuse because it would not have been possible for a tall person to sleep on such a sofa. The ultimate thing came when we arrived after the concert in the middle of the night and even the sofas they promised us were already occupied! So they charged 10 Pounds for a virtual sofa that did not exist. We had to sleep that night in the corridor on the floor and still did not get the money back!!! I have not seen such a thing even when traveling in so-called third-world countries.

What looked OK from the outside turned out to be a nightmare on the inside. 2 clearly wasted guys who openly admitted to clients that they were overbooked showed us to our rooms. The rooms were dirty and the room overlooking the main road had a sash window that could not be closed. When we asked for the keys we were told that they didn't know where they were, but they would lock the rooms when they found them. The whole place smelled; the guy in reception was sat openly smoking, despite it being illegal. During the first night, the person in charge walked into the room at 1am, switched the light on, before grunting an apology and leaving. The shower and bathroom facilities were a health hazard, with one of the toilet seats covered in excrement. On returning to the room after a wedding on the last night, we found 7 people staying in our 2 person room and all of our stuff had been removed. We stormed down to reception, finding some of our belongings along the way only to find that there was no other space available and once again they had overbooked. The manager apparently was not around, although a tetchy guy that came out of the office turned out to be him the next morning. Four of us ended up sleeping in one small room. We demanded our money back and were successful in getting it, though we were not treated courteously in doing so.
The only person I would recommend this hostel to is the guy from Rentakil or Glasgow council, in order for it to be closed down.
