One would think this would be an average B&B. That's what I thought but as soon as I entered the Kelvingrove I was proven wrong. This hotel is family owned and relatively small. The staf is extremely nice offering 5 star customer service. I stayed there for 10 days, thus, had an opportunity to really expereince the Kelvingrove hospitality. Whatever one might need was delivered to my room upon request (iron, adaptor). Rooms were average size but nicely decorated with a homy feel. There was a free Internet and free most delicious breakfast each morning, which could also be delivered to bed upon request (I did it once).

I was in Glasgow for a conference thus my time here was pretty busy. everytime I returned in the hotel I was greeted by name and asked about my day - lttle things like this make a lot of difference. Kelvingrove was home away from home! I highly recommend it!!!

My mother, my sister and I stayed in the Kelvingrove during a weekend break to Glasgow. A bus from the airport dropped us at a stop just outside the hotel. Our room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. The bathroom was a good size and was always warm and cosy. Although we had a room at the front of the hotel there was no street noise at night. Breakfast was very tasty! The hotel staff were really friendly and very helpful.
The hotel was about 15 mins walk from the main shopping areas and a bus service operated from the stop outside the hotel. This bus stop also served as a stop for the 'Hop On Hop Off Sightseeing Bus'.
Would definitely stay here again!

I stayed at the hotel for six nights, from 13 - 19th Sept 2008. Physically, the hotel looks like any hotel that you can find in a city area. The room itself is a bit smallish (with ample facilities though) compared with the price tag. However, where it excels most and when I felt that the price is justified is in their intangbile product - service. From the receptionist, down to the houskeeper, and to the breakfast staff - everybody are there to make you at home.
Upon arrival from Malaysia, I was cheerfully greeted by the receptionist who helpfully called my prebooked rental car to the hotel and follow it up consistently through the phone. It doesn't even take them two days to remember me and by the third days they already remember what are my favourite breakfast!
My return flight to Malaysia was early morning and I was supposed to be in the airport by 7am. I have booked the taxi at 6.30am, and they have helpfully prepare my breakfast at 5.30am - and its my favourite!
Overall, though the price is a bit steep, the service all in all more than justify it especially if you will be there for a long time or just miss your home.

I agree with all the good reviews that I've seen on this hotel (helful staff, good breakfast, good quality of room furnishings etc).
Naturally, beinging a fairly old building you can't expect sound insulation (particularly from the room above yours) to be perfect. I was woken on both nights of my stay by people returning late to the room above mine and making quite loud clunking noises.

I stayed in room 2 and I certainly can't recommend it. It suffers from two or three very serious flaws:

- It is right next door to the kitchen and the smell of cooked breakfast fills the room from 6am
- As well as the kitchen there is a cuboard that the staff use right outside the door of the room and there is lots of comming and going in the early mornings. I think the staff try to be quiet but they can't really avoid making some noise which travels easily through the door of the room
- The double glazing in the bathroom is cracked and as a result, after a cold night the bathroom can be very cold (there is only an electric towel rail in the bathroom and it provides no heat to the room.

Perhaps part of the problem is that I am a light sleeper and I didn't have ear plugs. I would also say that the wireless lan receoption in the room is quite bad.

My husband and I had a very comfortable weeklong stay at the wonderful little family-run Kelvingrove hotel. The hotel is located in a great area of the city near the convention center, beautiful Kelvingrove park, the park's excellent (and free) museum, and lots of nice restaurants and pubs (recommend Mother India's Cafe, The Sisters, and Oran Mor). We stayed in room 18, which was spotlessly clean, very quiet and peaceful, and had all the amenities a traveler could want (phone, TV, hair dryer, and even in-room coffee and tea). Breakfasts were delicious and I really appreciated the many options we were given. A computer is available to all guests in the lobby area, which makes staying in touch with family and friends by e-mail very convenient. The best thing about the hotel is the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners and staff--they really went out of their way to help us make the most of our stay in Glasgow.
