We stayed at the Kelvingrove In July. Our family group of four got our first impression of Glasgow on our way to the hotel. Looking lost with map in hand, a friendly Scot rolled down his window and said, "Are you lost? Follow me." He took us straight to the door of the Kelvingrove. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful as well. We received help with our luggage, suggestions for restaurants and loved the option of having our breakfast delivered to our room. Our family room was in the basement. It was roomy, clean and very lavendar. There was an unexpected tiny kitchen area equipped with fridge, stove, and microwave which would be great for an extended stay. The bathroom was spacious and clean. The water pressure was really hard, almost uncomfortable. There are several restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, just ask. This staff truly cares about your comfort and your stay with them.

The Kelvingrove is a small hotel, just a short walk from Glasgow's great Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery and the lovely Kelvingrove Park. The owner and people working at reception are very friendly and helpful. There is free internet access in the lobby. Excellent full Scottish breakfast included. Our twin room was small but comfortable, with en suite with shower. The Glasgow Tours "hop-on, hop-off" bus stops just down the street and goes to all the major attractions. You can also catch a bus to the airport just across the street. There are restaurants nearby (I recommend Lamora, an excellent Italian restaurant just a block away on Argyle Street, where we went twice. Wonderful food and reasonable prices.)

Stayed at the Kelvingrove the night before flying out of Glasgow, in a downstairs family room facing the street with my husband and two grown sons. The decor was overwhelmingly MAUVE but the room was spotless and comfortable with a small but perfectly adequate ensuite shower room. Some noise at closing time, presumably patrons leaving the nearby "Snaffle Bit" pub, but can't complain too much since my sons were among them! Breakfast very good and served by pleasant staff. Extremely helpful receptionist at check-in. Good location - walking distance to the pedestrianized downtown shopping area and 5 minutes from the Kelvingrove Museum and University. Ask for directions to the great little Italian restaurant - La Mora - that's just around the corner.

  • Liked — Great tips from the extremely pleasant young female receptionist.
  • Disliked — MAUVE!
