“Small, cozy, great staff...but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

This was a nice hotel in general -well situated near Kelvingrove Park. Although it says "West End," it is really on the eastern margins of the West End. Easy walk to many features including University of Glasgow, Subway, etc. What the online materials don't tell you clearly is that most of the rooms are in the basement of the structure, with no lift. The room was cozy and well ventilated, but the plumbing was incredibly noisy. A loud hammering noise followed even the slightest turn of the faucet, while flushing the commode released a long string of noise. And a shower was accompanied by a full sturm und drang event. The staff was amazingly helpful on all occasions. We would certainly fall back on this location in the future, but would likely explore other options in the future.

Truly enjoyed this small boutique hotel close to Glasgow University, the Art Gallery and downtown Glasgow with great shopping and restaurants. We arrived early in the morning and they stored our baggage and provided breakfast even though check in was not due until the afternoon.

Stayed here for 1 night on our tour of Scotland and what a great place to begin.

We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who told us where too park- buy your ticket from the hotel, not from the machine-much cheaper- she explained about breakfast and told us where our room was.

The room was large and comfy. The bathroom was clean but a little cramped.

Great location to walk into Glasgow, roughly took us 20 minutes.

Breakfast was delicious and served promptly.

Would definitely recommend.

There was a good crowd of us over from Northern Ireland for a wedding at university. Hotel was so handy for it and a lovely walk next day to centre of Glasgow. The place was clean, breakfast was beautiful and the staff all friendly especially George with his banter. Would highhly recommend it for a visit.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

We booked this hotel for 2 adults and a child as we had to go to a funeral. Rooms looked modern and clean. Linen was exceptionally soft and beds were firm. This almost guaranteed a good nights rest... except that the basement rooms need a pump in the bathroom which make a huge racket when you flush or turn on any tap (or the shower). Loud enough to wake up anyone if you got up for a midnight drink.
Other than that hotel was fine. Breakfast was well cooked, plates were hot and coffee was even enjoyable!
Finally, finding a parking space after 20:00 can be challenging.

Room Tip: Avoid the basement rooms!

Stayed here for 1 night friendly welcome on reception with helpful staff. The room was large and the beds were comfy. A hearty breakfast set us on our way the next morning although the haggis had been fried to within an inch of its life!!! Would definitely recommend to others and stay again ourselves.

I have stayed at Hotel Kelvin every three years over a period of 49 years. The hotel has had three owners over this period.
During this long time the hotel has maintained an excellent standard of service and comfort.
The hotel is located in an excellent area of Glasgow with good transport available.

Room Tip: Book early to get the best rooms on the upper floors.
