We decided to give Zizzi a try after passing by several times...a poor decision.
If this place was anywhere other than Glasgow's west end it may be okay but Glasgow loves and knows it's Italian food and is competing with at least four genuine and far, far superior genuine Italian restaurants literally just around the corner.
Zizzi's just fails on so many counts.
Food average and overpriced, we had pizza and chicken pasta. Their pizza rustica is apparently their "signature" pizza and is meant to be rolled thinner than their classic pizza. I had the rustica and my daughter had the classic and the only difference was the shape (rustica is oval - big deal, so what).
Their "bread bin" is bordering on a breach of trade description standards and although nice certainly wasn't enough to constitute the word "bin" in the title. A "very, very small tub of bread" would be a better title.
Despite a very helpful and attentive waiter the actual food and drink service was slow (plenty of staff on so no excuse).
What Zizzi offers is the look and feel of chain restaurant dining, the atmosphere of a burger takeaway and the noise level of a busy pub - just awful.
Italian restaurants in Glasgow, including the smallest informal ones, set the bar very high and Zizzi comes nowhere close to meeting that high standard.
