Sep 22, 2007 | Trip type: Friends getaway

We chose this hotel for its location - we were attending a UEFA Champion's League football match at Ibrox stadium between Rangers FC and Stuttgart. For this it is ideal, approx 5 minute walk.
The hotel was very busy, in fact we were stopped by two very burly security guards who were checking everyone who drove in. The guys were very pleasant and we had no problems when we said that we were checking in. They had a list of everyone who was expected.
When we reached reception there was a queue and one girl on the desk. The bar was extremely busy and there was a special function in the dining room. Girl on Front Desk was very pleasant and efficient- she was coping on her own with a large queue. Unfortunately, when we reached the room, we had been given a twin instead of a double. The receptionist very quickly and again very pleasantly gave us another room.
The room itself was adequate - it was clean and comfortable. The furniture and furnishings had seen better days - but all was in working order.
We had been told that the dining room wasn't opening until 8.30pm that night but that room service was available. When room service eventually answered the phone, it was very clear that they weren't too keen on providing any service until after their 'hospitality function was finished - girl was still pleasant but patently didn't want to take an order! Poor service.
When we returned after the game, the queue at the bar was literally ten deep. The bar staff were excellent in extremely trying circumstances. Not only were they coping with the queues at the bar but also serving the waitresses for the dining room and another 'hospitality' function. The guys behind this bar deserve a large pay rise and real recognition for the always pleasant, good service.
We left early next morning - unfortunately without breakfast as they didn't start serving until 7.00am. Room Service was allegedly available from 6.45am but we didn't want to take the chance in view of our experience the night before. Incidentally Room Service did call at our door around 10.45pm with a Caesar Salad and wine - unfortunately we hadn't placed an order!
The hotel is good value for money and for us the location was great, they need to employ more staff on match nights and they need to spruce up their rooms. I would use again for another match at Ibrox.

Recently I took my elderly parents to Swallow Hotel Glasgow for a few nights. My mother is a coeliac with additional allergies. The chefs and dining room staff were brilliant - so understanding and helpful. They made sure there was always something suitable for her to eat even if they had to prepare something specially for her. My father is 95 and found all the staff most helpful. The buses for George Square and Kelvingrove stop almost right outside the door which he found very useful. They are looking forward to a return visit next year.

Stayed one night on a flying visit. Some trepidation due to other reviews, but found the staff friendly and helpful. Room was large and comfortable and the hotel facilities were more than I expected for the price - £56 all in for two people B&B. I've paid more than that for a single bed in a cupboard in other UK cities! Close to Ibrox for footy fans and within easy reach of City Centre and other shopping venues.

Just returned from a two night stay in Swallow Hotel Glasgow.
Excellent value for money. Room was clean, bed comfortable. bathroom adequate. Lots of hot water.excellent shower....however furnishings were tired! In urgent need of redecoration. Staff were friendly, check in smooth. Our room was to back of hotel.. way too close to M8 for a good nights sleep. Next time I would request a room to front. Avoid hotel when Rangers have a home game... very noisy resident supporters!!
Overall good value for money. Could some one pick up litter outside hotel entrance?G ives very bad impresson. Pool was very enjoyable.

From the first phone call I should have smelled a rat. 8pm at night phoned the hotel to get a room rate and to check what facillities the rooms had, told to phone back in the morning when reservatiosn where open, this sounded like why bother us.

Receptionist on arrival was pleasent.

Our room was on the second floor backing onto the motorway, avoid like the plague - the hotel do not believe in triple glaze so you here the very busy M8 at all ours. As well as all the noise from other rooms and the bar.

The hotel is in need of a major decoration, wallpaper dirty and peeling, raditors bleeding, tired and worn out furniture and a bathroom full of grease and mould.

Breakfast was another disaster, 10 minutes to get a seat then another 10 minutes to be asked whether we wanted tea or coffee. Only about 5 tables occupied in the restaurant but it stables were still not being cleared away. Very little fruit juice left, staindson the table clothes, dirty cutlery and the buffet breakfast was not worth touching i dont know what environmental health would have said about it.

Never again, avoid like the plague.
