The rooms are basic and a good price for Glasgow. The staff were friendly and helpful, but be warned, some North Americans experience problems with their credit cards so have cash handy to pay.

The location is excellent, as long as you don't mind being above a bar at night. The food was good and we loved Fraser (the guy with the eye patch), he completely made our day and even offerred to loan us an umbrella while it was raining.

OK, the shower could use new curtains and some mildew remover, but you could tell they had been cleaned. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and it was exactlyw hat we were looking for.

  • Liked — Fraser
  • Disliked — Grungy shower

This real-ale pub is not usually listed as a hotel but it has several rooms on the top floor.
excellent location in the heart of glasgow and it even has limited free parking if you can negotiate around the tables in the beer garden!
there is a narrow staircase - no lift - to the small rooms.
We had to climb across the bed as there wasn't enough room to walk around it! However there was an en-suite bathroom, adequate enough.
Yes, the rooms are pokey, but not overpriced considering the great location and atmosphere.
this is a cosmopolitan, busy, but safe area, a short walk to many trendy bars and bistros that have mushroomed in the revitalised merchant city quarter.
Babbity's itself is a friendly bar serving good ales. Atmospheric and quirky.
The owners are a bit smug but not as bad as some. The bar closes around 11pm and guests are treated the same as other punters - drink up please, no lock-ins. However there is a night porter for those who return late.
Food is served but we ate elsewhere.
recommended for those who want a quick introduction to Glasgow cafe culture.
Safe for single ladies, but awkward stairs for disabled like me.

My husband and I, hardy Canadians we are, stayed at the BB in August 2007 before we set out for the West Highland Way walk. We read about the BB in The Lonely Planet and couldn't resist the opportunity to stay in a place with such a curious name.
To our pleasant surprise, its architecture and exterior street appeal were extremely impressive and highly admired by locals. The interior dining room/pub was unique and well-worth the visit. The location, couldn't be better. The staff were young, informal, chatting and more than willing to help. Rooms were small, modest and clean. No frills. No CNN. Heh, if you want to be pampered, stay at the Hilton. If you have a sense of humour, and want a cozy spot to sleep, drink a pint and meet the locals, this is the spot.

  • Liked — The location. The architure.
  • Disliked — Rooms were simple, modest and very small.

We stayed at Babbity Bowster for three nights, and chose it for the location and the fact that it serves real ale! However, we found the staff to be unwelcoming and unfriendly (totally unlike anywhere else we went in Glasgow).

We returned from a night out (before last orders has been called at the bar) and asked if we could order a coffee each - the bar person said we could not as the machine had just been cleaned out! She was also aware that we were residents - I feel this is just not good enough.

Great location, beautiful bar, great beer, average room, and well below average customer service. Would I stay here again? Maybe, simply because of the location and little else.

The rooms are definitely an afterthought at Babbity Bowster. They are very basic. Plain white walls. Very small bathroom with sort of a jury-rigged shower. They did what they needed to do. We slept there and showered there.

Babbity Bowster, itself, was terrific. It is an old style pub. Very friendly staff, great selection of beers. The rooms have keys with big paddles on them, so they aren't meant to be taken out of the place. That didn't matter though, because once you check in, you are free to duck behind the bar and grab the key whenever you want. Being a pub, breakfasts are served a bit later. That meant that we missed ours the day we left for the airport, but that didn't really matter.

The area around Babbity Bowster is getting spiffed up a bit. They were laying new brick roads when we were there, and a lot of restaurants are sprouting up.

Staying at Babbity Bowster was fun. I don't know if I would do it again, I do like my luxuries, but it would be a great place to stay if you like more basic rooms a great pub to call your own.
