“Quiet, Nice, We Would Recommend It and Stay Again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2011

Because we had a family of four (my wife and I with two children aged 5 and 7) we were looking for options that were both affordable and accommodating for four persons.

Stayed at the Albion for three nights. The location in Glasgow was nice, a very short walk to Great Western Rd. which had plenty of eating and drinking places along with shops. A metro station was 2 minutes away. We stayed over a weekend and there was plenty of free parking directly in front of the hotel at no charge because the meters do not charge after 6 p.m. on Friday. The river was across the street so there was a small greenbelt instead of more buildings so this added to the calm and quiet. The hotel is on a street that dead ends where it would connect with Great Western, so there was little to no traffic. The Botanic Gardens, with a nice playground, were a 10 minute walk and Kelvingrove Museuem, which was really a nice place to take the kids, was a 15 minute walk (or $8 cab ride).

We were driving, so the fact that it was an easy location to find and was not directly on a busy road was convenient. The on ramp to the highway was 5 minutes away by car.

The people at the hotel were very polite, helpful, and professional, and the breakfast was good. We had a family room with four beds and it was decent in size, especially by European city standards. The building is obviously older and there is no lift/elevator (we were on the third floor) but the rooms were nice and tidy. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel to others.

Room Tip: Room 8 was the family room

Good location. Friendly receptiveness (Jackie).
We booked on line, and were given an apartment at no extra cost. Breakfast was good.
The apt. was very clean and extremely comfortable.

The Albion is very closely located to a transit station, so we were able to get to the city center easily. Lovely shops around the corner, nice pubs and restaurants. Quad room is very large however be prepared for a walk up stairs to the top floor, and you will carry your own bags. Service very polite, nice breakfast. Street parking during the day is tough due to its proximity to the train station, but we had no problems moving the car right in front after 7 PM. Very quiet. Very clean. Some modern updates in the bathroom.

The Albion is more like a large bnb than a hotel, but that gives it a friendly personal touch. I only stayed one night, but I would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is on a side street off the Great Western Road, opposite Kelvingrove subway station. As the weather was glorious, I walked from the centre of the city, which took about 20 minutes. Check in was quick and cheerful. I had a single room on the first floor, which was a very good size and faced the back garden, so it was quiet. There was some noise leaking through the wall from the people next door, and the fridge hummed quite loudly (I could have turned it off if it had really bothered me), but otherwise I had no problems. There is free wifi, although it's a little slow.

The room was very clean, nicely decorated, the bed comfy, and the ensuite bathroom also a good size and spotlessly clean and fairly new. There was the usual tea making facilities, flatscreen tv, clock radio, but also extras you don't normally get in a bnb for that price, including a mini fridge and a hairdryer. I only discovered that the showergel dispenser was empty in the shower once I was in there, so I'm glad I brought my own shampoo as usual!

Breakfast is served 7.30-9.30 everyday, a bit later on Sundays, and they offered a whole range of the full Scottish, porridge, three types of cereals, toast, etc. Very quick service. Breakfast room was pleasant. The only odd thing was that tea and coffee was self service from a machine rather than, as I expected, them bringing over a pot to you. It would also have been good to have known that they open the bar in the evening for drinks and also serve sandwiches and soup during the day - maybe next time!

Overall I would highly recommend this hotel. Very good value for money and in a great location. Lots of interesting boutiques, huge range of restaurants, and the botanical gardens all nearby. Try the bar under the bridge over the river, and secondhand bookshop Voltaire and Rousseau on Otago Lane.

We stayed here for three nights. This hotel is excellent value for money. Rooms are clean and comfortable, breakfast good, staff are very friendly. The location is excellent for travelling anywhere in the city, the subway is at the end of the road and we did not move our car from arriving to leaving. A special thank you to Jackie who made our stay fun and went the extra mile for us. We'll be back! :0)

The first room we were offered was on the top floor and was not suitable but we were quickly moved to a ground floor room for the six nights we stayed at The Albion Hotel. We had a very spacious room with floor to ceiling bay windows, comfortable beds and ensuite facilities. The staff headed by Donald and Jacquie were superb and treated us like guests in their home without being intrusive, provided advice on local restaurants, and arranged for a taxi to take us to the airport at the end of our stay. They supplied delicious cooked breakfasts daily in the lounge. Rarely, though we travel extensively, have we felt so much "at home" while in another country. We will certainly return to The Albion any time we are in Glasgow.

Room Tip: Be clear on what is important - quiet, desk, size

I had a very pleasant 3 night stay here in april 2011. I arrived around 8:00 pm and was friendly greeted by the hostess Jackie. The single room was cozy, clean and comfortable with all the amenities in place. The ensuite bathroom is a bit small, but it's practically the same as in any other B&B in Scotland and it suited me perfectly. Extra mention goes to the shower which was warm and provided excellent pressure. I had a good nights sleep as the bed was comfortable and the immediate surroundings of the hotel are quiet. The hotel is a bit removed from the centre, but due to the fact that your practically 100 metres from a subwaystation, the location is excellent as its quiet and easily reachable. I didn't have any breakfast at the Albion, so I can't judge that. There're some good places to eat in the vicinity of the hotel. Try the Heart Buchanan cafe and deli which is a pleasant stroll down the road (it's on Byres Rd.).
I found this an excellent place to stay in Glasgow and it represents good value.
