My husband and I have just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel. It was very clean and comfortable, and the decor very modern. All the staff were helpful and friendly. We ate in the restaurant the first night and although the service was friendly, we did have a long wait, even though there were only about 10 other people there. We paid £34 for the meal and a beer each. Good food but rather small portions. Next day we ate at the Ingram Bar on Queen Street and we got quicker service, generous portions, and for only £21 for food and beers. I can't comment on the hotel breakfast as it wasn't included in our stay. The tea/coffee making facility in the room was a very welcome touch and there was no problem replenishing the stock at reception if we ran out. As neither of us is a fast-food fan, we were delighted to find a great sandwich bar called Greggs outside Central Station which made delicious sandwiches and rolls at very reasonable prices, and we bought these for late-night snacks in our room. Greggs seem to be part of a chain, as we saw a couple more around the city. If you do like fast-food you'll be spoilt for choice, as just up the street there's a Pizza Hut, a McDonalds, and a KFC.
We found the location very central, only a short walk from Central Station and some great shopping streets. I know some reviewers said its a bad area, but its fine in daylight. I think the problem may stem from a nearby off-licence that seems to attract a few undesirables, which might seem a bit threatening at night. We wouldn't walk down this street late at night. However, the Radisson is on the same street, only a couple of hundred yards away, so even paying top dollar doesn't guarantee you the best area.
The only problem we had with this hotel, and it was a very big problem, was the traffic noise. Theres no air conditioning so you need the window open in warm weather, and the noise is unbelievable, even tho we were on the fifth floor. Because of this, we wouldn't go back except in winter time, when we could keep the window closed. In fact, the shopping was so unexpectedly good, I'm planning on returning with friends to do my Christmas shopping in Glasgow in November. It's a great city and the people are very friendly. Oh, and the food is the best we've ever tasted, outside of Ireland.
