I traveled to Glasgow on business late October 2008 and stayed at the Marriott hotel three nights. Good overall facility. Efficient, clean and typical Marriott consistency. The room was good, very clean and the bed was incredibly comfortable.

The hotel staff was great (sans one small issue) and I was allowed to check-in quite early (10 AM) after a long flight from the USA. After only day, several of the front desk remember me from check-in and helping me on a few things (e.g. mailing some post back to the USA). The bartenders were also great and remembered me by name after only dining there one night while a football match was on.

Breakfast in the hotel was average. However, for a B&B rate, its just fine. I was in and out in 10-15 minutes every day. If you are loooking for a simple breakfast, you'll be satisfied. If you want a 5 star buffet, you'll be disappointed, and to that note not sure why you would even be staying at a Marriot if you are looking for opulance. Eggs, pudding (sausage), tomatoes, potatoes, cold cereals, meats, cheeses, fruit and breads. Again, simple and efficient.

The ONLY problem that I had was that the day of my check-in I wanted to take a brief nap before heading into the office. I called down to the front desk for a wake up call....which never came. To my benefit the extra hour of sleep is what I really needed, so I'll just chalk that one to fate. Note: the alarm clock is set through the TV...and will definatley wake you up!

I'll return. Good job Marriott!

Had an executive room with access to the executive lounge which was nice. Room well maintained and very comfortable; bathroom too very good. Central location within a mile of the centre of the city.

  • Liked — lovely bed and room with all the trimmings
  • Disliked — rather impersnal entrance and reception

My son and I booked an Executive Room complete with full access to the Executive Lounge. Arrived at check-in at the designated time only to be told that the room wasn't ready. She gave us access to the Lounge but this proved to be a poor excuse for an up-market facility. Computer terminals were present but access to the internet was very pricey. At 2:00 pm no drinks were available and the huge coffee machine was positively lethal with jets of steam squirting everywhere. We spent a dull and somewhat pointless 30 minutes in the lounge

As there were no toilets in the Lounge, I had to descend 12 floors to the lobby to find one. On reaching the main desk I took the chance to ask the receptionist what the staus of my room was only to be told a long story about people checking out late and cleaners being off sick. She told me to wait in the foyer area while she asked the Head Housekeeper to investigate. 30 minutes later, no update and surprise surprise, no receptionist as she had gone off duty.

We were eventually given a room on the ninth floor which when we reached it was not the Executive room we had booked and paid for.

We went back to reception and were told that all the rooms in the hotel were identical. Utter rubbish as I had stayed here many times before and had sampled the various types of room including suites and was well aware of the difference.

Eventually, the new duty manager came out and told the same tale and quickly retracted it when she found that I had been before. She offered to bring all the stuff down from the executive floor to make it an Executive room. She would only charge for a standard room....very big of her NOT! We left and will not be back. It was clear that the rooms had been overbooked and had they been upfront about it, we could have come to an agreement.

I have always enjoyed staying there but whilst waiting in the lobby I was able to look at the building more closely and noticed that it had become, 'tired'. This hotel was opened more that 20 years ago and has seen very little in the way of upgrading. In the past I have always found the staff very pleasant but on this occasion, they lied continuously to the extent they were really taking a rise out of me.

I shall not be back. I have written to the General Manager but doubt if I will get a reply.

Staff, room and parking are good but avoid the cooked breakfast.

Its expensive and poor value. For me, Breakfast should be a highlight but scrambled eggs submerged in yellowish liquid, rock hard black pudding, underdone bacon, and most remarkably sticky sausages spoiled the day's start.

We took breakfast three days running and it never varied.

I was completely underwhelmed with the Marriott.

Check-in was efficient, but we had to wait for quite a few minutes, as there was only one desk clerk working.

The room was not that big, but it had a lovely king-sized bed. It was clean and pleasent.

The bar was nice, and the staff were very friendly.

The location was good - close to Glasgow Central station and not too far from the SECC which was the reason I was in town.

But I just found everything about the hotel distinctly average.

We got a deal through Priceline, but I wouldn't want to pay the rack rate for this hotel. It's not worth it - especially when you don't even get free internet.
