Nice wee hotel in the centre of Glasgow and not too expensive. Funky little old style lift in the centre of the stairwell and very friendly and attentive staff. Would recommend to friends and family, however would warn them that the rooms are a bit small and for some reason they're very warm.

The room was quite small, a little bit noisy (air conditioner from outside), but it was bearable.

The biggest disappointment was the bathroom: towels were clean in general, but with somebodies short hair (and that hair were not from the head), I checked another towel and it had the same problem.

The positive thing was that they have fantastic soap (I asked on the reception for another one to take with me, they kindly gave me another one).

Management response from Jamie Stevens, General Manager
(Management representative)
Jul 23, 2009
This is quite unbelievable as we have a fresh laundry delivered everyday. I wish you had brought this to our attention at the time so we could of seen this for ourselves and dealt with the situation should it of been the case. I am glad you enjoyed our toiletries and i do hope you return.

Regards,

Jamie Stevens

My partner and I chose Abode for our 1yr anniversary and we were really pleased with it! We were booked into room 315, which was a cosy little room, perfect for us! Lovely furniture, beautiful painting above the bed, clean bathroom too. I switched on the AC and it started to leak so straight away the hotel upgraded us to a Junior Suite!!! Amazing!

This new room was MASSIVE and had a gorgeous view of Glasgow! Basket of free food on arrival and generally just brilliant! Staff could not be more friendly :)

We had arranged to have dinner in the Michael Caines restaurant at 7pm but were so keen we were 15mins early and we were seated immediately. Complimentary glass of champagne was lovely, and also a complimentary appetiser of rabbit loin and langoustine mayonnaise! Perfect! The restaurant itself is just lovely, very classy and again gorgeous paintings on the wall. Staff were attentive and friendly throughout and totally professional at all times.

We then we heading back to our room and had asked for a corkscrew (thought we'd bought a screw top, oops!) and we were told that someone would bring it to our room! A gentleman arrived within 2 mins with wine glasses and opened our bottle for us. Absolutely fantastic!

The bed was very comfy, we could hear people outside during the night but nothing to complain about, just the usual nightlife.

The breakfast in the MCgrill (or MCbar cant remember!) in the morning was really good aswell. We both had the full cooked breakfast and it was excellent, not greasy at all and you got to pick how you like your eggs. Coffee was Fair Trade and delicious. Again, staff were friendly and attentive!

Upon leaving the hotel the receptionist was professional and really friendly, we will DEFINITELY be going back to Abode and will be recommending it to all our friends and family.

working in the housekeeping department at a high luxury hotel in Edinburgh i had high expectations. The room size was small but was relatively clean - skirting boards and everything were dust free just a few bad marks on the walls. I was disappointed with the bed although it was one of the comfiest beds me and my partner had slept in when we arrived there was a hair on the bed ( know its easy to miss these things but it is one of my pet hates so it stuck out bad), the duvet was too big for the cover the sheet was not presented neatly on the bed and the mattress protector was slightly dirty.

In the bathroom my main concern was the grouting and the floor corners and edges and it looked like the holes at the radiator could have been filled in a little bit more.

again i was a little disappointed that we never had any bathrobes in the room or offered a turn down service.

i know my review sounds as if i didnt enjoy but from other reviews i was expecting worse and because i work in that department i am probably more of a critic but we really enjoyed our stay and will definately be going back.

we dined in barmc and that was fantastic would not fault that at all felt full before finishing but it was too good to waste.

my only major concern were the staff, with the exception of the receptionists every other member of staff we walked past did not seem to be friendly or approachable and i personally believe they inflience your choice. hopefully we will be in glasgow soon and on our next visit the staff be more friendly.

thank you abode

My wife and I booked Abode on the basis that it was a city centre hotel for under £100 that included breakfast. We'd eaten at the Michael Caines restaurant, which is within the hotel a few months ago and it was one of if not the best meals either of us had ever had so our expectations were high.

We arrived mid afternoon and were greeted by friendly staff. We got to our room (218) which was a bit of a shock. The furniture was extremely worn and was clearly in need of replacing. The side tables had drips of varnish all over them. The wooden skirting boards were chipped and needed painting. The sink in the toilet was cracked and had clearly been detached from the wall at some point given the poor replacement of the rubber sealant. The bed was essentially a bouncy castle with a duvet....yes sounds like fun but not if you have a bad back like my wife does!!

Later that evening when we returned from AC/DC at Hampden (yeah, yeah I know, sad old rocker) we went to the bar and order drinks which the barman said he's bring to our table. He then proceeded to go and talk to the other staff for 10 mins before he had to be reminded to bring our drinks. We then order two Egg Mayo sandwiches, 20 mins later the barman finally returns to tell us they'd run out. So we reorder, in my case tuna mayo with no salad and ask for the sandwiches to be sent to our rooms. Another 30 mins later the sandwiches finally arrive and of course mine is covered in salad and even has salad mixed in with the tuna. I sent it back. 15 mins later my sandwich returns, still with salad throught it. Bin.

The noise from the street in the morning was deafening despite us both being in the habit of wearing earplugs. I know that's not the hotels fault but you should be aware of this if you are considering staying here.

In the end we couldn't wait to get out so we passed on the breakfast so can't comment on that.

The whole thing was so disappointing and really a shame considering just how good the restaurant is.

So stay somewhere else and book into Michael Caines to eat.

Management response from Jamie Stevens, General Manager
(Management representative)
Jul 23, 2009
The hotel is currently undergoing a small refurbishment which will alleviate the issues within the bedroom; most rooms have been completed now. I am shocked and will be investigating the issues within the bar/ room service which is totally unacceptable. I do hope we get a chance to show you how fabulous we truly can be.

Kind regards,

Jamie
