“Nice location but average hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

Hotel selected for a romantic weekend away. Very pleased with the location, and it's in a lovely building with am impressive foyer and staircase but found the room to be a bit average. Nice, and clean with comfortable bed but not much above Premier inn to be honest whereas price was considerably higher. We stayed in a 'desirable' room- one above basic and expected a little more. Bathroom and bath were small and cramped- bath was very small too. Breakfast was extra (not included in price) but was really nice- however upmarket cafe's nearby were offering comparable breakfast for same price. We didn't have an evening meal here-we headed round the corner to Blythswood Square- out of our price range for a hotel, and to be honest also out of our price range for a restaurant but outstanding and didn't begrudge the money at all for a one off special occasion.
Not a lot else to say- if going for something special would advise upgrading to a better room.

Room Tip: 'Desirable' room- one up from basic, was still very basic in our opinion

The entrance to the hotel and lift may be very impressive but once you enter the rooms the wow factor is soon lost! We had an 'Enviable' room, well I felt enviable of others in nicer hotels. The room was large but void of furniture with a basic bed and basic fittings. The bathroom looked like it was in desperate need of a refurbishment and was far from the standard I would expect and certainly wasn't enviable.
Adding to this the heating in the room didn't work and wasn't fixed for the duration of our stay.
My partner and I spend a lot of time in hotels all over the UK and were sorely disappointed by the standards of this hotel.

Dear RobertB,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review on Abode Glasgow.
I am sorry the room was not to your expectations, our Enviable rooms are the biggest rooms in the hotel along with the high ceilings can be overwhelming at times. If you had mentioned this to our reception team they would have shown you some of our other rooms for you to choose from as we have may different types available.
We have started to refurbish our bathrooms and this will be ongoing through 2013.
Please dont hesitate to contact me direct should you wish to discuss your issues further.

staff very pleasant on arrival room on third floor was in need of a refurb carpets and furnishings were a bit dated and bathroom was cramped and had a shower with lookwarm water at best could not fault the room for heating it was roasting we had originaly planned to eat in the hotel but decided not to as the dining area was deserted very noisy in the street below till about 3am so be warned if you are a light sleeper get a room away from the street breakfast service was excellent in the morning the breakfast was average though and could have been served on hot plates one of my pet hates overall it was an average hotel have stayed in many in this price bracket that i would rate a lot higher

Room Tip: dont get a room facing bath sreet for noise

Stayed here on a Saturday night, check in was smooth and receptionist was really pleasant - apart from directing us up a flight of stairs when room was actually on ground! Expected room to be chic and boutique hotel style but it was old, tired with flaking paint. Very noisy air con unit or generator outside room. Did expect intermittent noise of drunk people etc but not constant annoying generator noise. Great breakfast and easy check out. It was an average stay but nothing special, there are better hotels in this price bracket

Booked a Saturday night stay for my wife and I. Paid £159 for a luxury room on a room only basis, same room was £79 any other night of the week. Quite old fashioned but nothing like luxury quite basic compared to nearby 4 star hotels.

Lift was very old fashioned and doesn't look that safe, quite quaint though.

Staff in reception didn't come across as happy to help in fact quite sour faced.
I stay overnight in Glasgow regularly and though this was my first time at the Abode it will be my last.

Room Tip: Don't book a luxury room as the price isn't value for money!

Stayed here for two nights recently during the week. Really nice hotel, inner lobby and stairwell fantastic. Rooms good, have everything you need. Central location but DON'T get a room on the front of the hotel. It's on the main road and the noise can be really bad from the street below. On the plus side, breakfast is really good, great choice. There's also a fantastic restuarant just up the road, Sarti, fantastic Italian food.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear of the hotel

We were put here after the hotel we had booked was over-booked. We were assured this was a lovely 4* boutique hotel but our experience was far from that.

On arrival the front of the building is beautiful and the lobby and lift are lovely but don't let this fool you. Our room (103) was pokey, had last been decorated in the 80s and had no mod cons as I would have expected from a 4* hotel! There were broken plugs, a cracked sink and stains on the curtains. The furniture was awful and the bedside drawers wouldn't shut as they were hanging off the wall at an angle.

During the night we were rudely awoken at 8am by the bin men emptying the glass bin under our window and shouting the usual banter.

On a positive note, breakfast was lovely and the restaurant is very modern and beautiful decorated. Staff were pleasant and very attentive.

I wouldn't recommend paying the £130 for a double room here and we won't be staying here again. My advice to management is to spend the same money and attention to detail as they have on the shared public areas in their rooms.
