“Fabulous hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2014

Having stayed here on business this is a hotel I would return to for pleasure. The staff are welcoming and make an effort to get to know you and the facilities are second to none. With free tray service to your room they make eating in when on your own a pleasure.

I have stayed here several times and the service was exceptional each and every time.

Dear Kiwikaz924,

Thanks so much for choosing our hotel for your business trips. A lot of hotels do charge a ridiculous amount to carry a tray to a room, we felt it better to encourage our guests to eat!

I look forward to welcoming you back personally on your next visit.

Our hotel was in a great location, the staff helpful, Hector was very accommodating, all were very conscientious of there job. Our room was clean, the bed and linens fresh and comfortable. Enjoyed the rooftop restaurant, nice views and the breakfast buffet was a feast, a great way to start the day. A bonus, to our surprise was the free mini bar also complimentary was a tasting of 3 of spirits in crystal decanters in our room.

I booked this hotel because of its location and reviews, arrived with my 95 year old mother as she just had her birthday from London so that she could visit her four sisters probably for the last time ,i explained this when booking and was told that we could have the use of the executive lounge i thought that was very nice ,a plus when booking ,when we arrived a rather unfriendly man demanded full payment because i was paying with a debit card (never have i had to pay before staying at an hotel or seeing the room in full )with a 95 year old exhausted and in a wheelchair i did not want to cause a scene apparently he thought we might leave without paying ,it seems an occupational hazard in this hotel according to him .

The room was very dark 401 facing scaffolding and two office workers visable at thier desks ,the cooked breakfast would have been more edible if the sausages were better quality ,we reverted to cornflakes in our room for breakfast. The second day when my four aunts and cousins arrived we all had afternoon tea in the small roof top restaurant four aunts ageing from 87 to 95 and three daughters my mother is in a wheelchair, once again money was discussed telling me it was ten pound a head very vulgar ,i paid in full with a generous tip before we were even served .
I had a key to the executive lounge with our room as discussed before aunts visit ,we settled in the lounge ,i told a young man serving there that i would be willing to pay for some wine and he would not have it ,as we were guests ,my mother and aunts barely touch alcohol as you can imagine ,so a few glasses of white wine were consumed ,after maybe an hour i was accosted by the catering manager i had already noticed him in the roof top restaurant as he had a rather angry face i asked him was he waiting to clear up ,i am a very polite well travelled professional , in the executive lounge he launched it to quite a loud angry tirade asking me if i had a room in the hotel ,i asked him to step outside to discuss this as i was shocked that he seemed totally lacking in the basic manners ,i corrected him regarding my room status which gave my elderly very sweet mother and her very sweet sisters acess,my offer of money for the wine and that it had all been discussed pre booking,a young executive staying in the hotel came out and was shocked at his behaviour and said that he was very unhappy with this catering managers behaviour ,i was very upset he said he would complain as he had seen us all eating in the restaurant ,i hasten to add a very empty venue for lunch and in the evening ,we dined in the Grand hotel and wished we had stayed there it was cheaper as were many other better appointed hotels ,i chose it entirely because of location so my very old aunts could get there easily .
The general staff in the hotel could not have been nicer one of the reception staff never greeted us and the catering manager was a disgrace ,he passed me afterwards sour faced no apology we did not go near the roof top restaurant again and stayed away from the executive lounge and out of the hotel a very expensive sad last visit for my 95 year old mother we were the guests i will complain about the management in this hotel and i would stay clear for the commonwealth games someone from the Carlton group needs to pay a visit .

Room Tip: We were 401 the numbers on that side are dark facing scaffolding office workers at thier desks coul...

The hotel is very central on George square, right by the airport bus stop for those that want to use it.

The hotel it's self is a bit dated but is clean and comfortable. Each room has a free mini bar and some rooms give you access to the executive lounge which is a nice benefit. I had breakfast this time I stayed it is up in the roof restaurant with views across the city.

Overall good location and that's what you pay for with this place

Stayed 2 nights with hopes of luxury however a level of disappointment via the staffs erratic responses, one particular man on reception only said hello on the 4th attempt we passed at reception looking for a curtious greeting
The room was clean and obviously high standard if decoration however a touch bland and without flair. The additional mini bar and alcoholic beverages were nice touches but would require substantial abuse to level the room cost
Food in the Windows Restaurant was good and well priced though some money could be spent to refresh the decor
I would recommend the breakfast in bed option, great food and service and lovely service from the staff - could not fault this great touch
The executive lounge is lovely and nice to relax if you can get a seat by the open fireplace. Service here was great with bright smiling staff who couldn't have been more helpful
Overall we felt this stay was overcharged but it's location cannot be argued for ease of access to the fun of Glasgow city centre

I was surprised to read that my team on reception were not as friendly as they could have been, as you can see from the majority of guest reviews, we generally get really positive comments regarding hospitality. I do hope you will consider staying again in the future.

Booked the hotel "weekender" break for a theatre break.
Arrived at hotel and had an easy check in to our executive room. Our room was facing the back of the hotel. Interesting mini bar and drink in decanters. Bathroom functional, although sink slow to drain.

We dined in the windows restaurant on Friday night. The restaurant wasn't really busy, and it's quite small. Our issue wasn't with the food, the service was slightly erratic, if somewhat a little disorganised. Food was nice, wine was nice £20 a bottle of Pinot Grigio. Great views.

Hotel is in a great location, and our room offered the option for the executive lounge. We used it in the evening which was a fun area to chill in after a long day.

Room has all you need, was spacious. Air con worked meekly, but seemed to cool if left on all the time. Decor ok, gives an impression of grandeur. Bed was comfy and really large.
Toiletries in the bathroom were nice. The towels were lovely and thick! Hair dyers could do with updating, they are not very powerful, so pack your own if you use one.
We never used the complementary wifi as get 4G on my mobile.
Probably not our choice of hotel, lacked what we would normally go for, gadgets and modern chic.
Staff friendly, bar one, but then there is always one eh?

We missed breakfast one morning but had breakfast "in bed" on Sunday. Good choice from breakfast menu and we were happy with it. Arrived bang on time slot requested, with what we wanted.

Ease of check out and £10 parking for 24 hours in Buchanan Galleries car park.

Worthy of a repeat visit? Possibly, the executive lounge would be nice for family / friends to enjoy a night cap or 2.
