We stayed 3 nights at the Carlton George and found it quite lovely. The only negative was our first-floor room had a window that didn't open. The bed was king-sized and the room itself rather large. Since we faced an inner courtyard noise was not an issue. Bathroom was spotless with tartan tiles!. A big plus was use of the 7th floor lounge with computers, a wonderful coffee/hot chocolate machine and served drinks. Front desk was extremely cordial and helpful, although we didn't like Amarone, the nearby Italian restaurant they recommended. We ate breakfast at Bradford's Bake Shop on Sauchiehall Street (upstairs is a lovely tea room with amazing porridge) and dinner at Kama Sutra. We had take out from Wagamama on West George Street near the hotel. Queen Street train station is literally around the corner. Buchanan Street shops are a block away. Location of this hotel is excellent. We did not eat in the restaurants and can't comment on the food. It is a classy hotel for the price.

Stayed at the Carlton 2 nights over a weekend. We chose the Carlton after reviews on Tripadvisor, and weren't too disappointed.
The Hotel is in an excellent location, in the heart of Glasgow. We drove to Glasgow, so parking was a bit tricky, but we found that if you park at the Buchanan Galleries Multistorey Carpark, round the corner from the Hotel, the Carlton will stamp the ticket and you get 50% off your parking bill.

Bad bits: The entance and Hotel lobby were a bit of a disappointment, as we were expectiing something a bit more grand. Our Club room was slightly disappointing in it's size, but the hotel is in a premium location, so I guess size is a constraint.
The breakfast was ok, but we thought it had limited choice for a 4 Star.
Good Bits: The receptionist and all the staff were very pleasant and courteous. Nothing was a problem and everyone smiled. We ate at the Windows Restaurant the first night. The view is very good and the meal was excellent, but the Menu is very limited.
We found the Executive Lounge ok, and had some drinks there a couple of times, but we liked to spend our time out and about. We asked the hotel for a balcony room prior to our arrival, which they supplied us with.......excellent.

Overall, a very clean nice pleasant hotel in an excellent location, but for the money, we would probably go back to the SAS Radisson or the Menzies mainly for its ammenities(swimming/gym), bigger rooms and bigger breakfast.

Tip: If you walk out of the hotel entrance and turn right and walk 50 yards. There is a little Italian Restraunt that has tables outside on the main shopping thoroughfare. We sat there for a couple of hours and People Watched, whilst drinking and eating some Italian nibbles...excellent.

The Carlton George is in a perfect location. Lovely boutique hotel with a great staff. Our club room included free breakfast and cocktail hour from 4-11. We only wish that the hotel bed was more comfortable.
Glasgow is not a city I'd visit for any reason. It's old, tired, dirty and not many sights.

I stayed at this hotel from August 14th to 18th and highly recommend it to anyone travelling to Glasgow. The location is ideal for shopping and nightlife. I booked an executive room and was delighted with the lovely big bed. The bathroom was spotless and the heated towel rail an added bonus. Okay so the view wasn't the greatest but as I wasn't there to sit and look out the window it didn't really bother me. Staff at the reception desk were very friendly and very helpful, they couldn't do enough for you. The mini bar was a very welcome addition. I have stayed at quite a few Glasgow hotels over the years (including the Hilton and Millenium) but the Carlton George is definitely number one in my books.

My wife and I stayed at the Carlton George Hotel (CGH) in downtown Glasgow and we loved the hotel. While it was a bit hard to find, we finally checked in. For those going there, it's right by a round-about and about a 30 second walk from George's Square.

First off, the good. The location of this hotel was awesome if you want to experience everything downtown Glasgow was to offer. The architecture of this city is amazing! There is a bar connected to this hotel called Waxy O'Connors and be prepared to hear locals stumbling out at 3am, singing songs. C'est la vie...that's Glasgow for you.

The rooms were tastefully appointed and plaid was the theme, which of course seems fitting. A nice touch was a crystal decanters of liquor in your room with three different types of hard alcohol. Also, there was a mini bar in each room with Becks beer (not the best in my opinion) and mini-Pepsi's. We also got some delicious Scotch shortbread every day too, which was much appreciated.

There are many things within an easy walk from the Hotel. There is the Glasgow Museum of Modern Art, the Buchanan Galleries (shopping that's second to none), Buchanan Street which literally was a walking only street that went on for kilometers. It was awesome. Within a 5 minute walk of the hotel there was also lots of different places to eat. If you're going there, go to the Gregg's across from George's Square and get a chicken pie, they're delicious. Also, as you walk from the hotel to the Buchanan Gallery car park, there's a donner-kabab (donair and shishkebab) place on the corner as you go right. Go there to eat! The guys in there were awesome and so friendly.

Also nice was that being in the heart of downtown, you are around the corner from the train station where we hopped a train to Edinburgh that took us north through the Scotch country side. There is also Glasgow city tours on red double-decker buses that take you all over Glasgow with a narrated tour.

Finally, the hotel staff were amazing. Duncan, the hotel manager at that time, were so amazingly friendly and would just sit down and talk with you. He also had many awesome recommendations in terms of things to do. Who better than a local for finding out what to do. The hotel was also amazingly clean and well kept. The rooms were decent size with all the amenities you could want.

The low point: Few really. For the hotel, where you actually park compared to where the hotel is was a bit of a walk considering you were lugging around luggage.

The food. Haha, it's Scotland and Scottish cuisine is not known for being spectacular. However, because Glasgow is such an international city, there are many places to eat that are not "Scottish" so you're not going to be seeing haggis or neeps and tatties or steak and kidney pie on the menu. If you walk that, you'll certainly find it, but if organs are not your idea of cuisine you can find alternatives.

Overall, it was an awesome vacation. We went all the way north to Loch Ness and explored much of the Scottish country-side.

If you are going, this is my warning to you: GET A GPS with European maps loaded. Driving around Glasgow and the rest of Scotland would have been a nightmare had it not been for the GPS. The GPS was so incredibly detailed that it took us on road that were onyl passable by one car...it was more like a sheep trail but it took us where was asked to go. The motorways in Scotland are a treat to drive on, one you actually get on them and the whole driving on the other side of the car and on the other side of the road took a bit to get used to.

If I ever go back to Glasgow, I would not hesitate to stay at the CGH Glasgow again.
