Good Friday saw us revisiting the Glasgow Hilton. Internet booking was straightforward for an Executive double; basement parking at £5 for 24hrs an absolute bargain and reception on the nineteenth floor was quick and courteous. We have previously occupied larger exec rooms in this hotel but despite its compactness, this one it lacked nothing in the usual toiletries and exec amenities, being very clean and with a good view towards the Clyde ( to avoid the restricted view of nearby buildings at the rear of the hotel, I would suggest visitors request the river or "motorway" view, which doesnt sound good, but at that height noise is not an issue). Having now visited a fair range of UK hotels, we can safely say we find the Hilton beds amongst the most comfortable by far. The well equipped hotel gym and pool were both clean and of high standard. The Exec lounge serves complementary afternoon tea, later followed by canapes between 5 and 7pm - these were a nice variety of of bites and sandwiches but by our arival at 6pm were down to last few sandwiches. A complementary bar is available between 5 and 10pm (this was Friday evening - perhaps check for availability other evenings ?) Well stocked with spirits, wine and beers as well as soft drinks and tea/coffees. Replenished on request, the bar proved very good value. Our only concern was a stag group of men in their thirties who eventually drew attention to themselves. This was not too excessive but would not be welcome to guests with families. That said, early behaviour was good and once things became a concern, management were very quick and effective in response. To be fair, this was something the hotel could not have forseen and once it became an issue, it brought two managers very promptly to quiet the group. Unfortunately though, this was not the first time we had seen small groups on a weekend celebration taking advantage of such good exec benefits. That said, following a few drinks, Camerons restaurant was excellent, even allowing for a late booking and my only having casual clothes. Starters ranged between £7 and £12 ( we started with scallops and foie gras - both towards £12) then venison and fillet of pork ( £20-25). The meal started very well with a complementary glass of Piper champagne and was enlivened throughout by the Maitre D/sommelier , who made us feel most welcome and proved very good company . Buffet breakfasts are renowned at this Hilton, and this visit was no exception. Fresh juice offered on arrival, wide selection of cereals and fruits, folowed by a full hot buffet; (e.g four diferent varieties of sausage -veg, beef pork and cumberland, potato scones, hash browns etc and some excellent haggis).
Express checkout was speedy and efficient. A very enjoyable visit and a hotel to which we will happily return.

Be prepared for long check-in lines, and a slightly tired early 1990s decor. Beds are comfortable, but decor as a whole does not reach five star standards. Fabrics are worn, and the 19th floor Executive Lounge is not very slick or plentiful in its food offer. No CNBC or Bloomberg TV channels, but staff are generally friendly and welcoming.

As a long term guest at the Glasgow Hilton, I've experienced most facets of the hotel, and the fact that I keep coming back suggests that it has a lot to offer. However, like all hotels it isn't perfect.

Location could be improved on. It has a rather strange approach when walking, but I have never felt unsafe walking to or from the hotel at any time of the day or night.

Check in is decidedly average with some of the staff who struggle with the system and provide a substandard first impression. Others, however are excellent, and provide a friendly and competent welcome.

The rooms are generally large and clean. In my experience, most city centre hotels are cramped. Standard rooms at the Glasgow Hilton are large, some of the best ones (corner rooms especially) are positively huge by any standards.

The design of the bathrooms do leave a little to be desired with a fixed shower head and poor controls, especially compared to say a standard Marriott bathroom.

On balance, the coffee shop is OK for breakfast (although expensive, there is an excellent selection and quality is good), but the evening serve yourself carvery is overpriced and the quality is decidedly average. Staff turnover is high and the quality of service is variable.

For those with Hhonors gold / diamond status or who have booked executive rooms, the executive lounge is excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the lounge offers complimentary bufet breakfast, afternoon tea (awesome!), early evening snacks and bar.

In summary, the hotel is not without faults, but after many months of staying there, I still keep coming back.

This was my first stay in the '5*' Hilton in Glasgow. For this rating i was expecting first class standards and excellent facilities.
Hmmm, obviously i was expecting too much!
Lovely lobby area, however the welcome from the Front Desk left a lot to be desired, no eye contact, no friendliness at all. Although the lifts are adjacent to check in desk, in a new hotel its nice to have these little things pointed out.
The room was also very average, i can imagine the rates get very pricey here at times and id really grudge paying a lot for a room of this standard.
Room Service menu had been written on by previous occupants, minibar wasnt exactly clean and there was a strange sticky residue on top of the kettle (!?!)

One good point was the friendliness of the breakfast staff, they were all very nice and very helpful. Although it would be nice for them to bring toast to your table as well. You have to go to the machine and wait for it yourself.

Its not the best location either, you really need to get a taxi into town, unless you fancy walking around the back of the hotel, where its not exactly well lit and not a great sense of security!!

My stay was okay, but for the rating of this hotel i expected far more.

I stayed on business here a couple of times in 2003 (but it has now unfortunately been removed from the rosta for cheaper accomodation. ----!) The hotel is well appointed and decorated, but is admittedly very hard to find as others have mentioned (much wandering of dingy back streets searching in vain for the entrance in the dark - not good). The rooms are very nice and the room service is of a good standard. I never managed to get a good view - unless you find the M8 an area of outstanding natural beauty. To that end be warned - the hotel is pretty much surrounded by motorway and can be a bit noisy in the morning rush hour (and is essentially a tower block).
The lobby is very nice and the restaurants are fine but nothing special really. Overall recommended, especially for business travellers, but if you have the choice I'd go for something more authentically Scottish with a bit more character (and a bit more central).
