Nice Hotel, But Watch Out For The Mini Bar

Arrived at the Hilton Glasgow to see standing before us a very attractive tall building with a very large grand reception area. So far so good. We checked in quickly and easily thanks to the staff and found our room easily too.

The twin room was on the 11th floor, it had a nice view down Waterloo Street with the Glasgow Central Rail Station at the end. The room was good, nice beds, large desk, large wardrobe and a large LCD TV which I was able to watch the Newcastle Utd match on (Sky TV availible). The bathroom was fantastic, the usual complimentries were supplied except soap to wash your hands with! But the shower was excellent to finish a days hard travelling off and I can only assume a bath would be even better.

There is a mini bar in every room BUT BE CAREFUL. Once again BE CAREFUL WITH THE MINI BAR. The mini bar is automatic, each section is fitted with a small touch switch and if an item is LIFTED (NOT DRANK) LIFTED, then the mini bar AUTOMATICALLY CHARGES YOUR ACCOUNT.
I was fooled by this and had to ring the reception and beg for it to be cleared as in a huge burst of excitement on arrival I picked up probably half the mini bar (Probably £50 at least) to show to my mother. I only discovered what I had done once reading the price list. The warning is written in the smallest font possible at the bottom! You can ring reception and they can lock it automatically for you. I suggest if you are staying there with small children to get it locked it is very expensive and they charge you even if a product is lifted. I have made a formal complaint about the lack of warning on the fridge itself but nothing will happen in my opinion. I'm only assuming they make lots of money out of people not knowing what they are actually doing.

Anyway, back to the review. We both had a great nights sleep in the very comfortable beds and were both woken up by the supplied alarm clock (giving you the option of pop, oldies or classic music to wake you, there is also an AUX input in case you would like your own music to wake you up!)

We arrived at the hotel restaurant, 'checked in' with the staff and was shown to a table, served tea or coffee and also a glass of fresh juice. The breakfast is a help yourself buffet style occasion. With a selection of fresh fruit, cereals, pastries, breads, meats and cheeses (continental breakfast) with the usual hot breakfast options too, sausages, bacon, eggs (made to order if you want) or srambled and fried, hash browns, tomatoes, beans, potato scones etc etc. There is also unlimited drinks. Breakfast on the whole was fabulous, including the service.

We checked out after breakfast at the comfortable non rushed time of 12pm. However any later and your paying extra, but in my opinion not needed. I would definatley stay at the Hilton Glasgow again.

Good stay--few details lacking

We stayed here for one night over the weekend of Sep 20/22 2008. There were two adults and two children under 2.

We booked a normal room and requested two travel cots. While the cots weren't ready when we arrived, they were delivered within 15 mins of getting into the room. The room had ample space--even with the cots.

The hotel was full, but we didn't have to wait too long at reception and the whole preocesss was painless. The rooms have been recently refurbished and seem to be in good shape. One minor point there was a little black mould/fungus on the tiling around the bath/shower which should have been easily fixed and took the shine off an otherwise perfect room.

The breakftast was varied and plentiful next morning--great selection and ths staff very helpful and attentive indeed.

We used the pool facilities--again flawless and great with children.

Parking was a bit of a nightmare, especially since the hotel was full and this for me was the only let down of the trip. The hotel is also not that central to the city, but that was no big deal, since it was easy to drive into town and with numerous parking spaces available. Contrary to the other poster, I think Glasgow is a wonderful city--lots to see and do, at least we thought so!

Overall great stay, and would thoroughly recommend the place to anyone.

Me and my good lady stayed in this hotel and were abit sceptical at first because of the bad reviews we seen, We got a room on the 17th floor with great views of the city , to be honest wasnt to much to see in the city.
The rooms were perfect , modern comfortable and roomy. They had a mini bar and a nice bathroom, tv ,mp3 player and radio.

The leisure facilitiies were excellent, nice pool that wasnt over crowded and staff were reasonably friendly, but to be honest we didnt go to the hotel to meet friends so i dont really need anyone to be particularly nice to me.

The breakfast was amazing, wow, what a variety and very good service all for 110 euros a night.

If i went back to Glasgow , we would definately go back there .

Just spent two nights in the Hilton Glasgow. We booked an executive queen room but were given a twin bedded room with the smallest twin beds in the world. Fortunately this got changed but booking had been quite specific.

New executive lounge is a major let down. Staff are miserable and look at you as if you were trash. As a diamond member I expect recognition and friendliness. The young man in the Executiuve lounge needs to go on some serious customer relations training.

Exec lounge was busy and continual requests to restock plates, cups, cutlery, napkins, food and drinks. Staff nowhere to be seen and more interested in asking for your room number than providing any level of service.

the exec lounge has been moved to the 2nd (Ground) floor. No windows, hot and stuffy and feels as if the Hilton Glasgow see it as a necessary evil rather than what customers expect. Exec rooms are on the top 4 floors so a long trek in busy lifts to get to Exec lounge.

Only choice of food was a buffet (no a la carte) which looked tired and past it.

Area is poor and dangerous to walk in at night. Take a taxi.

Staff generally unwelcoming, unhelpful and arrogant, Concierge has no knowledge of what is on in glasgow, where to go or where to eat. When asked just handed me a brochure.

Will stick to better hotels if visiting Glasgow again

Really enjoyed my single night stay at this modern, welcoming Hilton about 10 mins walk from Glasgow’s Central Station. This hotel is the perfect choice for business travellers visiting Glasgow. My super clean room was very comfortable and featured a nice view (16th floor). I booked and paid in advance from my room from Hilton’s UK website and my rate, including breakfast, worked out to be less than £10 more than booking a room plus breakfast at the Premier Inn on Argyle Street. (I am a big Premier Inn - however Hilton offers a better product at a comparable price).

I cannot fault the service – which was attentive at check in and breakfast which was very tasty and included local favourites like Haggis (try it and just don’t ask what’s in it). If you’re looking for a modern, central hotel in Glasgow I recommend this Hilton without reservation.

  • Liked — Tasty breakfast; sparklilng bathroom
  • Disliked — Pedestrian access to hotel unclear; would benefit from better signage
