Arrived at the Hilton Glasgow to see standing before us a very attractive tall building with a very large grand reception area. So far so good. We checked in quickly and easily thanks to the staff and found our room easily too.
The twin room was on the 11th floor, it had a nice view down Waterloo Street with the Glasgow Central Rail Station at the end. The room was good, nice beds, large desk, large wardrobe and a large LCD TV which I was able to watch the Newcastle Utd match on (Sky TV availible). The bathroom was fantastic, the usual complimentries were supplied except soap to wash your hands with! But the shower was excellent to finish a days hard travelling off and I can only assume a bath would be even better.
There is a mini bar in every room BUT BE CAREFUL. Once again BE CAREFUL WITH THE MINI BAR. The mini bar is automatic, each section is fitted with a small touch switch and if an item is LIFTED (NOT DRANK) LIFTED, then the mini bar AUTOMATICALLY CHARGES YOUR ACCOUNT.
I was fooled by this and had to ring the reception and beg for it to be cleared as in a huge burst of excitement on arrival I picked up probably half the mini bar (Probably £50 at least) to show to my mother. I only discovered what I had done once reading the price list. The warning is written in the smallest font possible at the bottom! You can ring reception and they can lock it automatically for you. I suggest if you are staying there with small children to get it locked it is very expensive and they charge you even if a product is lifted. I have made a formal complaint about the lack of warning on the fridge itself but nothing will happen in my opinion. I'm only assuming they make lots of money out of people not knowing what they are actually doing.
Anyway, back to the review. We both had a great nights sleep in the very comfortable beds and were both woken up by the supplied alarm clock (giving you the option of pop, oldies or classic music to wake you, there is also an AUX input in case you would like your own music to wake you up!)
We arrived at the hotel restaurant, 'checked in' with the staff and was shown to a table, served tea or coffee and also a glass of fresh juice. The breakfast is a help yourself buffet style occasion. With a selection of fresh fruit, cereals, pastries, breads, meats and cheeses (continental breakfast) with the usual hot breakfast options too, sausages, bacon, eggs (made to order if you want) or srambled and fried, hash browns, tomatoes, beans, potato scones etc etc. There is also unlimited drinks. Breakfast on the whole was fabulous, including the service.
We checked out after breakfast at the comfortable non rushed time of 12pm. However any later and your paying extra, but in my opinion not needed. I would definatley stay at the Hilton Glasgow again.
