we were there from nov 12-16 2006 for a conference. ideal location because of the adjoining clyde auditorium and the SECC. the room decor is great, food (especially the lamb) is brilliant and the staff are courteous but i recommend you book somewhere else unless you have no other choice, for the following reasons
- we got there early (11am) and were told that we could not check in until 2pm as the rooms weren't ready. no problem with that, we waited at the bar. so imagine our disappointment when we found the rooms very dusty, as if no one came in to clean for a week. i thought it was just my room but my colleagues had the same observation. the pillows had an awful scent of human sweat and sebum.
- service at the bar is slow despite three bartenders on board and only five customers waiting for drinks
- the lifts were either very slow or didn't work (it took an average of 15 minutes waiting for the doors to open and the lifts made ominous creaking sounds)
- the fire alarm kept going off 'for a drill' that week (once at 5am then several times that week). during the day they tried to disguise the sound of the alarm with random blasts of music. it's not on, especially as most of us were on the 15th floor.
we had high expectations as the hotel was recently spruced up and it has a four star rating. it has great potential but the place seems understaffed. it's sad to see that management seems to have a lackadaisical attitude with housekeeping just because the place is almost always booked thanks to conference attendees at the nearby clyde auditorium. lots of room for improvement.
