My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights in July '06 and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The Crowne Plaza was formerly the Moat House and has recently undergone a fairly extensive upgrade although some of this has been paper and paint rather than new furnishings.
We had a corner suite on the 15th floor which provided magnificant views over the city, as did the recently opened club lounge.
The rooms in the suite were pleasant albeit not the largest I have been in, the bedroom just felt it could do with being a metre or so larger in each direction, but the lounge was fine. The bathroom is small for a suite.
Plasma-screen (or were they LCD?) televisions in both bedroom & lounge, effective air-conditioning which kept the especially warm July weather at bay and a very comfortable bed. The armchair in the bedroom was another matter however, very trendy in appearance but no matter how hard I tried I just could not get comfortable sitting in it.
We enjoyed breakfast downstairs in the restaurant which featured a well stocked and readily replenished buffet selection; but beware the air-con here if you sit by the window, the draught blowing down on us was so cold that we had to move.
A bar meal one evening was more than adequate, albeit not the cheapest I have had in the city. Dinner on another evening was equally enjoyable and a goodly selection of dishes were on offer.
The club lounge has to be one of the highlights of the hotel, it's without doubt worth the extra to upgrade to a room which allows access to this facility. Charming and very helpful staff, complimentary continental breakfast, nibbles during the day, canapes in the early evening and a selection of wines and spirits as well; as much as you wish during the hours they are on offer.
Without doubt this is now my 1st choice for an hotel in Glasgow and I would recommend it without hesitation.
