Stayed here overnight on the way to the Loch Lomond Scottish Open, wish we could have stayed longer! The location is not to far from the city and is directly on the waterfront . The check in was excellent , any questions I had ready to ask had already been answered by the check in girl (Jennifer). We had booked a club room on the 15/16 floor, Was a bit concerned after reading a few negatives about the club rooms and the lounge on the 15th floor. There was no need to have been. The room was excellent as was the Lounge. The room was very modern and the view (1502) was excellent. Free drinks and snacks in the lounge from 5pm -10pm,. plus a flat screen television and internet facility.
The health club was also good, we only used the pool and steam room but all were clean, the staff were very helpful. In general all the staff in the hotel were very good. Our only complaint was the french fries served with our bar meal......they were awful!! Did tell the waitress but all she did was to apologize. Breakfast was very good we were offered 2 breakfasts for the price of one when we checked in. We would certainly stay there again when visiting Glasgow.

Note to the Manager who I notice very often replies to advisors.....your training is working very well. but change your potato supplier!!

  • Liked — The room and the hotel facilities
  • Disliked — the french fries!!!!!

Chose the Crowne Plaza as it is linked by covered walkway to the SECC and we were going to see a concert.
Easy enough to find - even with the roadworks.
Parking costs £5 per night for which you pay at reception. Not secure but seemed safe enough.
Scottish girl on check in was very friendly.
Room had two king beds, bathrobe, usual tea/coffee, minibar, trouser press. Lots of wardrobe and drawer space. Heavy curtains at window gave good blackout. Marble bathroom with a good power shower.
The walk to the SECC took about 5 minutes through a maze of corridors but was easy to find. After the concert it was FANTASTIC to be able just to walk back to the room without having to worry about taxis or public transport. Would stay again if I was attending anything at the SECC.
Glasgow Science Museum, IMAX cinema, BBC all just a 2 minute walk away over the river.
The one thing which lets the hotel down is its restaurant.
Service was very very slow. It took 40 minutes from placing our order until the starter arrived. Had to ask twice for a jug of iced water and when it did arrive it was in a filthy metal jug which looked like it had been used for gravy and not washed properly. Same poor service at breakfast in the morning. Shown to a table without cutlery and had to ask twice.
Food was very good but the service let the whole thing down.
This did not detract from our stay though and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it or stay there again.

I booked this hotel especially as I was going to see a show in the SECC which is connected via a walkway with this hotel. As such it was perfect location for my purpose but if you are looking for a city centre hotel then this isn't it.
Now to the hotel itself. Check in and check out were smooth. The room was spacious with a pleasant view over the city. It had all the amenities one would expect from a modern hotel as well as some pleasantly surprising touches such as bathrobes and chocolates on the bed on arrival.
The beds were comfortable and we slept well except for the chambermaids who started vacuuming in nearby rooms before 9am!
We ate dinner in the hotel at the carvary buffet which had a good selection of dishes although not what I would call fine dining but good fare at the price. There was an a la carte menu but the cheapest main course was over £15. The breakfast was to die for. Every concievable taste was catered for - the only down side being the restaurant area where breakfast was served did not seem able to cope with a busy breakfast sitiing and we, along with many others, had to queue for over 15 minutes to be seated for breakfast.
Overall I enjoyed my stay and if I was going to another show in the SECC and needed a room I would definitely stay here again.

  • Liked — Location

We have just arrived home after a short break in Glasgow, it was our first wee family holiday with our 10 month baby boy and all in all it was very enjoyable.
I found the hotel staff very pleasant (maybe they enjoyed seeing a smiling happy baby instead of a grumpy tried man in the next comment), breakfast very good even when it was so busy on the sat morning the staff were still very helpful with getting us everything we needed for Caleb's needs. A cot was supplied in the room and cleaned very well each day. Carpark very convient and very low charge of £5 for our stay whihc was very reasonable.
We didn't know what to expect from our first weekend away with our son and the hotel made it very pleasant.
We prob didn't ask for anything extra like early check in etc but we were treated well and everything we needed was at hand.
Also spa staff were very good and i was pleased that there were no restricted times for children in the pool with good changing facilities.

  • Liked — convience and spa
  • Disliked — bar food was a bit pricy

The hotel is in a good location for the SECC venue. The rooms were of a high standard except the plug sockets were on the floor which meant that you had to plug in kettle and leave it on the floor and dry your hair with your head under the desk and not in view of the mirror. What really let the hotel down was the staff. The restaurant, breakfast and bar staff were rude, barely smiled and were inattentive. We were told that there were no tables available for us to partake in the hot buffet, when only thirty of the 100 couverts were occupied (and looking at the forward bookings, they were only expecting thirty more diners over the next two hours). The tea at breakfast was stone cold and food was poor. This hotel gets the basics wrong which ruins the overall surface appeal. I would not recommend this hotel to others.

Management response from DJMcVEY, General Manager
(Management representative)
Jul 17, 2008
Thanks for posting a review.

I am sorry that you didn't notice the sockets in the "periscope" on each desk top. Due to your comment we have now taken steps to highlight the location of all sockets so as to ensure ease of use.

I am concerned about your comments about the rudeness of all our catering team and that they wouldn't give you a table in the restaurant despite it being relatively quiet. I have asked the Food and Beverage Manager to make this a priority as its a major part of our business and not one that we can afford to get wrong.

Please accept my apologies.
