Stayed at this hotel for three nights for my hen party in glasgow. Loved everything bar the location as we had to organise taxi's everytime we wanted to go to the city centre. The pool was fab along with the room servive, hotel staff (extremely friendly esp at the residence bar!) and the breakfast was to die for. We had a slight problem with the room which was quickly resolved and we were moved to a bigger room with no camp beds as i particular requested that we would not use them when booking. 10 out of 10 for this super hotel!!

We booked in advance + received an email from Michelle on reception that as I was disabled, if I phoned en-route, a car parking space would be reserved for us. On phoning at services on M74, Scott answered phone, stated he knew nothing about reserved car park spaces + then hung up!
On arrival (+ thereafter) we did manage to park in the blue badge places each time, however this incident set the tone. Scott showed us to our room, not willing to engage in conversation, maybe he was having a bad day.
Our room, on 14th floor, was very clean with good complimentary products provided. Teletext would have been nice for the TV, the air con was noisy + the mini bar prices extortionate (£1.50 for a small bag of peanuts!).
At breakfast, we were told to wait by a stern faced woman, so that she could check there was a table free (the place was almost empty). We were not allowed to select a table.Food very good.
For dinner, the ala carte menu got rather samey after two nights and the service was very slow, however again food was well presented + cooked.
I would echo comments by other guests re the plugs at floor level. I am disabled + my mother is 81, so it was not easy for either of us to get down on hands + knees to plug in the kettle at a socket partially hidden behind one of the beds.
Was also surprised to make a "freephone" call to an 0800 number in the room + to be charged £1.00 for it on the bill!
These, however, were minor points compared to events during breakfast on our second last day.
As I was about to commence eating, Garry came over + asked whether "that was for injections", pointing to my insulin pen. I told him that I was an insulin dependent diabetic + required 4 injections daily, once immediately before each meal (fast acting insulin) + once after breakfast daily (long acting insulin). He stated that another guest had complained to staff about my injecting "you did the same thing yesterday at breakfast". I asked him where he expected me to inject. "In your room" was the reply. I pointed out to him that our room was on the 14th floor, and especially bearing in mind the slow service in the evening, I would probably have passed out by the time I got to eat. He then suggested the disabled toilet. I informed him that in my opinion it was unacceptable to expect me to break my skin in a public toilet. In addition, I also pointed out the provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act. It appears obvious that your staff are not aware of this Act. Nothing more was said about this afterwards, except that Garry asked us for our room number on leaving the restaurant area. We half expected a notice to terminate our booking to be on the dressing table when we got back from that days outing. This episode soured the whole experience of staying at the Crowne Plaza. I would add that when I inject, I am discreet and inject on the side of my stomach away from the nearest other person. This takes 10 seconds. I also wish to point out that at no time were any of the staff rude.
To conclude, I would not recommend staying here for anybody that requires to inject insulin for their survival. I also feel that £5.00 daily parking charges for residents (especially blue badge holders) is excessive.
I did complete a hotel review form with most of these comments on and submitted it (addressed to Mr McVey) to reception, along with my email address for a reply. Nothing received as yet!

  • Liked — Location, food (especially breakfast), views, pool, sauna
  • Disliked — expensive add ons (especially charging for freephone calls) and staff ignorance re disability

Thankyou for your review and apologies for the issues you encountered. I am sure I have already written in response to your questionnaire, again, I am sorry if you have not yet received my letter. I am particularly sorry about the incident at breakfast which the guest relations manager has now briefed me about and would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this with you on the telephone. With regard to the sockets in the room, these are available in the " periscope" unit on each desk in every room to allow ease of use.Perhaps we need to highlight this better by use of a small card on the kettle? On a brighter note I was pleased to read that you found the room clean and the food well served. We are however currently reviewing all our menus as we do every 3-4 months.

My partner and myself stayed at this hotel for the first time on Saturday night and were extremely pleased with our stay. We were down for a couple of reasons, one being going to see Jimmy Carr in the SECC. The hotel is obviously perfectly situated, as you don't even have to go outside to get to the auditorium. All the staff were extremely pleasant and very helpful. The car park is right beside the hotel, less than a minutes walk to reception. When we got to the room it was lovely and warm, a nice welcome considering it was so cold outside, although we did have trouble getting the heating to turn down later in the evening, the room was too warm by the middle of the night so I'm not sure if the thermostat was broken because we had the heating as low as it would go.

We decided to have dinner in the hotel as we didn't have time to go back into town before the show. The dinner was a basic bar meal but was tasty and didn't take too long to be served either considering the place seemed to be very busy. Breakfast was really good; it was a buffet with whatever you wanted really! We were well filled up for the journey ahead of us.

Overall we were extremely please with our stay and would recommend the place to our friends and family. The only real problem we encountered was that one of the lifts appeared to be broken so waiting took a lot longer than normal. I shall say again though that the staff were all very pleasant and very friendly. We also had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy Carr in the lift at one point, so you never know if you stay here you may get the chance of meeting someone famous! We are going to be attending another event at the SECC in October so I will be booking into this hotel again for that.

Really pleased you enjoyed your stay particularly the breakfast. You will be pleased to learn that the lifts are currently being upgraded following the breakdown that you experienced.

I stayed at this hotel for one night as it was convenient for a concert i was going to at the SECC and i had stayed there before with no problems. Check-in was slow and we were given room 212, which on first sight looked ok but was in fact very dusty, the television looked like it had not been dusted in months and my daughter maybe a bit cheekily wrote a message in it. The bathroom splash back and things like plug socket and lights at the bed were also very dusty,
surely it doesn't take that much time for the person servicing the room to take a cloth over these things. The mini bar was poorly stocked it advertised wine etc but only had water and juice. We booked a table for 6o'clock at the restaraunt which was a carvery which was lovely but a person who looked like the restaraunt manager asked us at 6.30 if we minded getting our bill as they were very busy. We did oblige but it would have been nice to have finished our meal at our lesiure. On returning to our room at night there was a large queue for the lifts and only 2 were working i asked about using the stairs as we were only on the 2nd floor but were told they were round the back of the building and i wasn't encouraged to use them by the staff member who seemed surprised at the request but i wasn't the only guest looking for the stairs.
Breakfast was ok the usual buffet style it was a bit lukewarm.
Check out was ok and i did complain about the dust. I also asked about leaving my car in the car park while we went into town this was ok so i was charged five pounds for my stay but my ticket was not validated and i couldn't get my car out of the carpark .On returning to check in the queue was huge so i decided not to wait and paid an extra fifteen pounds to get out.
I also had an incident with a youth in the carpark who got very angry when i accidentilly caught his car door with mine and despite it being a very gentle touch with no damage i felt very threatened by his actions ,He drove into the carpark as we were leaving the first time and had gone when we returned after payiing the car park fee all of about 5 minutes so i'm not sure if he was a guest. Would i stay here again?probably not.

Thankyou for posting a review following your stay last weekend. I am sorry that we did not live up to your expectations on this ocassion and that you didn't enjoy your stay as much as before. As you are aware, the hotel was extremely busy due to the concert at the SECC which unfortunately presented us with some service issues particularly on reception. There is no possible excuse however for the poor housekeeping for which we wish to apologise. I do hope that this will not deter you from staying with us again. Please give me a call so as I can look after your reservation personally next time. Dominic McVey

Due to my job I find myself staying in hotels over 150 nights per year. As a result I am Hilton HHonors Diamond member and a Priority Club Platinum member. My preference is always Hilton as I find my status is always recognised and that the hotel standard is always more consistant.

This said I found myself staying at the Crowne Plaza last week due to it's proximity to the exhibition centre.

I must say I was very impressed. I was informed that I had been upgraded on check in (without asking for once). The receptionist was extremely helpful and despite arriving at 1pm my room was ready.

The room was fine, not a lot more to say. The typical layout that one expects. Good work space. Internet is wireless but signal was good and posed no problems. Nice views. Bathroom was clean and the selection of toiletries was good. As always conditioner would have been welcome but I am used to not getting this at CP and HI's so had brought my own.

Executive lounge was very small but was quite empty when I used it so the size wasn’t a problem. The lack of people however meant a lack of atmosphere.

I had dinner in the restaurant. The host was great, very friendly and explained the option of buffet or a la carte. He showed me my table and took my drink order. I decided to go for a la carte but unfortunately it took a little while for my order to be taken. I had to ask a passing waitress if I could order. This may have been due to a party of about 12 as part of a birthday celebration arriving around the same time and the waiting staff being tied up serving them champagne etc.

Once my order had been taken the food arrived swiftly and the subsequent service was fine.

The gym facilities are pretty average. Small CV area but I did not have to wait to get on a treadmill so I've no complaints.

I also had time to enjoy a massage. This was the highlight of my stay. The lady therapist was excellent, very friendly and her skills were excellent. The price is also extremely competitive! Highly recommended.

I did not take breakfast the next morning due to an early start. Checking out was prompt with the right level friendliness and efficiency.

All in all a good experience, much much better than I have ever experienced before with this chain.

I am in Glasgow again in a few weeks and would be happy to stay here again (especially if the Hilton is full!)

Hello there,

I was pleased to read that you were pleased with the hotel during your recent stay and were impressed that you automatically got an upgrade without having to prompt us.

I appreciate that the Club lounge is a little cosy, but I am pleased that you did use it as that is what its there for. I am particularly pleased with your comment about the service from the host in the restaurant which I will pass on.

Please do let me know if you do decide to stay with us on your next visit to Glasgow.
