Stayed at Crowne Plaza to save driving from Glasgow to Aberdeen after Crowded House concert at SECC on 30th November. Check in was smooth and was delighted with deluxe room (room 101) which had separate living area to the bedroom. Although only on the first floor had good views toward both the city and across the Clyde to the new BBC HQ on the opposite bank. Very large comfy bed, tea/coffee facilities, minibar, TV with satellite and pay movies. Large living room had a sofa, desk, armchair, mini hifi, and another TV. All rooms were spotlessly clean. Was great to walk through to SECC without going outside in the Glasgow rain! (minor point would be the signposting to the main SECC could be slightly better between the end of the hotel corrider when enter the theatre/concert hall part of the SECC). Unlike previous visit unfortunately didn't have time to use the pool, but the public areas all look good. Parking costs £5 per day for guests - while free would be better I guess it helps prevent non residents using the car park for SECC or to cross the bridge to the science centre. Overall is the best hotel to stay in when visiting the SECC, particularly if get a good deal on a deluxe room (paid £130), as it is soooo convienient, can be in the bar or your room within 5 minutes of concert ending, all without stepping outside. Don't know if there are only a few family rooms, but have also tried to book hotel online when taking our 2 small children (3 and 9 months) and could never find a date with an available family room for us all. Nevertheless my wife and I have already booked for the hotel for 3 more concerts in 2008 (and a small break from the kids!), although just a standard room, as couldn't find a deal on a posh room for those nights and £170 for one night is more than enough for me, and more expensive than other hotels that are a 15 minute walk, but for me the convienience is worth the premium.... note to management, would be very happy to be upgraded!!!
