We were staying over one night at the Crowne Plaza as we were at the Meat Loaf concert at the SECC. Unfortunately we were unable to get a table in the restaurant before the concert, so we settled for a meal from the bar menu.

At first I thought this was a bit of a bad compromise as the bar looked very busy. However we were welcomed to a table, by a member of staff, who looked after us for the rest of our evening. Our meal was brilliant, even if a wee bit expensive.

To our delight the member of staff remembered us on our return from the concert, giving us fast and efficient service. Even though the bar was extremely busy all night the bar staff remained calm under pressure, and looked after customers to the wee small hours, making it a memorable experience.

The Crowne Plaza lounge bar, a perfect before and after if you are attending a concert at the SECC.

Thanks for your comments which are much appreciated. As you quite correctly pointed out, we are fortunate to be adjacent to the SECC so do tend to get busy during big events such as concerts. I was pleased to read that despite not being able to get into the restaurant you found our lounge service more than acceptable.Next time you are planning to visit, and you want to try our restaurant, please do call me and I will reserve a table for you.
Thanks again.

I stay at the Crowne Plaza every week as I work in Glasgow. I'm always made to feel welcome and, being a woman travelling on my own, I feel very comfortable there. Yes, sometimes it does take a little while to get served at the bar or in the restaurant, but that's usually because there is a function in the hotel. The rooms allocated to me are always clean and pleasant. Reception staff, bar staff, restaurant staff, concierge and even the girl in the gift shop are friendly and helpful. My advise is - if you have a problem speak to someone, the staff are always more than willing to help. No point in moaning after the event - tackle it at the time. Great staff, good food, pleasant atmosphere. Good hotel for business and a good place to stay if you're sightseeing.

Thankyou for your kind comments. It is always greatly appreciated when one recognises when the team do a good job. I will certainly bring your review to the attention of all concerned.
I agree that it is always best to bring any shortcomings to our attention at the time as it is always difficult to put matters right after the event.

I have stayed at this hotel twice, on both occasions as a delegate at a conference in the neighbouring SECC, the big advantage being that the conference can be reached without braving the Glasgow weather. On both occasions I found check in less than satisfactory. This year I arrived at 11.am (conference starting at 11:30) - I realised that check in was not until 2pm but expected to be able to sort things out in advance and get on with the conference. I was told that because the hotel was full they were not able to check me in until 4pm! When I asked if I could complete the paperwork etc and have my bags etc delivered to my room the receptionist answered we don't do that here especially when the hotel is full! I would have thought that a hotel of this size would be staffed to cope with a full hotel - especially when most of the clients would have booked in advanced.
This time my room was on the 16th floor with views over the Clyde spectacular but not pretty ( don't think the Clyde ever calims to be pretty so not the fault of the hotel!) The room was big enough although I felt there was too much emphasis on appearance and in order to make the bed comfortable I had to pull the tightly tucked duvet out and remove lots of cushions, once that done the bed was quite comfortable. Bathroom was good with clean towels a robe and slippers and all the usual toiletries, I was also pleased to note that the hairdryer was not one of the useless hotel 'attached to the wall' specials and that in my room there was a socket close enough to a mirror for me not to have to call for an extension cable. The rest of the room was cleanish although I did feel that it was slightly grubby in the darker corners - the glasses provided on the minibar were however filthy bearing lipstick marks from previous users!
Breakfast is good and plentiful although I find the bar/restaurant/lounge/reception area rather overpowered by the very unusul mural of shipyards, royalty and Glaswegian poverty!
The conference I attended arranged a black tie dinner at the hotel as part of the conference - I can honestly say the food was terrible! It was mass catering at it's very worst I hope the restaurant food is not as bad as this. The following day I was going to eat in the bar but felt that the menu was overpriced and so chose to eat in the city.
Overall I would have been very disappointed if I'd booked this as a family break but as a business stop over it was functional and did it's job - although I've stayed in much better conference venues.

  • Liked — Easy access to SECC
  • Disliked — Staff didn't seem to care we were a captive clientel

Thankyou for your review. I am sorry about your disappointing check in and am at a loss to explain as to why we couldn't store your luggage for you until a room became available. I'm pleased you found the view from the 16th floor impressive if not pretty but am sorry you found lipstick on a glass in your room. I hope you were able to make use of the club lounge as a guest on one of our club floors. As a major conference hotel, I was concerned about your comments re the banquet and will endeavour to investigate. In the meantime I have tried to contact you to discuss further.

Arrived at the Crowne Plaza around 1.00pm, we had traveled by train and found that although there is a covered walkway from the station to the exhibition centre grounds there were no signs directing people to the hotel, we eventually found an entrance although it wasn't the main one.

We checked in and were pleased to be given our room right away as check in isn't until 2.00pm. When we went to the room it hadn't been serviced and when I rang down reception were very apologetic and sent someone up to take us to our new room.

The room was very nice although part of the skirting was coming off and it was a little dusty. The beds were very comfortable and the linen was clean.

We were going to a concert so decided to have dinner in the bar, it wasn't that busy but I had to go and ask for menus, I was asked where we were sitting and told that someone would bring us menus. We waited and waited and eventually I saw a menu sitting on another table so we took that. After another while I went to the bar to order our meals and drinks. After this we were served quickly and the food was nice enough and although was priced a little higher than normal it wasn't overly expensive.

One of the best things about this hotel is the fact that the SECC can be accessed directly from it.

After the concert we went to the bar for a few drinks, bar staff were busy but polite and friendly, the only downside was the beer was warmish and a bit flat.

Breakfast is served from 6-10am (weekdays) and when I went down at 9.50am I was told by a stern woman that breakfast finished at 10 and the food would be removed at 10 sharp. The breakfast was fine with the haggis being the high point.

Checkout was fine and overall its not too bad, as others have mentioned there are some things which can be improved on and as it not the cheapest hotel these should be looked at.

I find it hard to recognise this hotel from the reviews.

I stayed here recently and found the staff and facilities to be excellent.

I had a problem printing some documents in their internet area and spoke to one of their manager's. (Think he was called David)He assisted me by taking me to another room where I was able to use an alternative printer. He even brought me a coffee while I was doing this.

I had a meal in the restaurant and again found the service to be above average.

Only bad comment I would make is that it is so warm in all areas.
